Disney Disney's The Jungle Book (2016) Blu-ray 3D [Region Free]

So it's been confirmed that this is a 3D movie. That trailer has blown me away to be honest, it looks absolutely fantastic. I was never really into Disney cartoons but i will definitely be checking this out, very impressive stuff.

I had to go looking for the trailer. Wow, this looks great!

Found out Jon Favreau did a Q & A session on Twitter.

@SolnSD: Which one word would you best describe this Movie? #AskJungleBook

Jon Favreau: Ambitious!

@Warmustbeend123: Jon, how much singing is in the movie of the original JB songs how & much will Bill Murray sing Bare Neccisites? #AskJungleBook

Jon Favreau: We wanted to include enough music to satisfy people who grew up w 67 film but not make it a musical or betray action tone.

@falcongunner33 what was you camera of choice to create these stunning shots? I can’t wait to see the film! #askjunglebook

Jon Favreau: @falcongunner33 Arri Alexa digital camera and the Pace system & Simulcam (developed for Avatar) to capture the 3D.

THE JUNGLE BOOK

@sunrarevival How did you manage to retain the realistically of the animals whilst making them talking characters? Thanks #AskJungleBook

Jon Favreau: We used behavior & mouth movements of real animals, not humans. Anim reference was drawn from performances and mocap of actors

@TedLamy: Are we able to see it in 3-D IMAX? #AskJungleBook

Jon Favreau: Yes! Movie was captured native in 3D. We are working on an extended dynamic range version to eliminate darkening from 3D glasses

@melloyellow48 Why did you want to do this movie #AskJungleBook

Jon Favreau: Disney was passionate about JB & 67 film is one of my oldest memories. New tech offers a way to tell the story in a fresh way

@OhMyDisney What are you most excited for fans to see in the new film? #AskJungleBook

Jon Favreau: The craftsmanship of the artists. The singing and music are pretty cool too. #askjunglebook

@MyersFTW Will this adaptation have a darker tone than the animation or will it be fun and adventurous? #AskJungleBook

Jon Favreau: The photo real approach definitely amps up the adventure beyond the 67 version, but we wanted to maintain the fun.

@Bannerofff Would you say the movie has an over all dark tone? #AskJungleBook @Jon_Favreau

Jon Favreau: No. You’ll see as more footage comes out that the tone is a mix btwn the original animated version and a modern action/adventure

@DavidMacey1 what was it like working with Bill Murray? #askjunglebook

Jon Favreau: A dream come true!

@MonkeyBoy1138 How many of the locations were real, and how many are cgi? They’re looking pretty authentic.

Jon Favreau: None are real. All are CGI. The whole movie was shot in downtown LA. … Mowgli floating down the river on Baloo’s belly singing was difficult to recreate with real physics. Lots of R&D

@sammyzkay95 what skills did you learn from your other directorial projects that helped you make @TheJungleBook? #askjunglebook

Jon Favreau: Iron Man gave me the most experience in the tech/animation aspect, but Elf taught me a lot of lessons in VFX.

@NiKlSu who was the hardest character to cast? #askjunglebook

Jon Favreau: Mowgli

@ConnorMcGinty Did the voice actors record together or separately? #askjunglebook

Jon Favreau: We tried to record them together as much as possible. #askjunglebook

@ScarlettJBrasil How was recording with the other actors, especially Scarlett Johansson?

Jon Favreau: She’s the best! she has such a great voice with so much character. #askjunglebook

That's awesome.

Someone needs to tell Mr. Favreau that we fans of 3D in the States won't be able to see the work he put into this unless we import.

Glad to hear he used 3D rigs to capture Mowgli! I was beginning to think there were only 5 or so Hollywood directors left in favor of native capture.

The trailer definitely gave me that awkward "uncanny valley" vibe though. Hope it all comes together nicely as a movie for them.

It's good to hear that it's native 3-D. Hopefully it's strong 3-D, similar to the films that came out this summer.

The original is one of my absolute favourites of all Disney movies. It's not sappy or schmaltzy and it has the best music and one of the best villains. It was produced at time when their animators were very loose and just incredibly fluent. It's staggering to believe they were able to draw everything so elegantly and rotate the forms and move them with so much nuance and precision. There's a real sense of dimensionality in how the artists managed to turn those characters as if mentally computing a 3D model with each drawing. And with all that virtuosity on display the film still manages to be fun and light. But the music really makes it a cut above.

It'll be incredibly challenging to both recapture that and do something new. I don't think what worked for the original will necessarily work with photorealism. It's hard to convey the same sense of personality the original character designs had with realistic animals. Some of the changes I find a bit weird, like changing King Louis from an Orangutan to a Giganthopithecus voiced by Christopher Walken. Gender-swapping Khaa seems like a good idea.

There are a lot of elements that should really work well in 3-D and create an immersive experience, and it's good to hear they're looking at extended dynamic range, there do seem to be some visually dark scenes which is always difficult for 3-D.

The 3D version of the trailer, which features slightly different cuts from the above clip and a much more immersive Avatar-esque experience, will be shown this weekend before 3D and Imax screenings of Everest.
I know where I'll be this weekend.

Yep,I went and they did show it. It was a bit blurry on the fast paced shots with the camera angle moving quickly. Yet when the shot is still with the scene in action, it is so good! Mostly it was the same trailer but had a few different images inserted going thru the jungle. The still action had fairly strong 3D. Even the darker scene where Mowgli is face to face with Kaa, it is decently strong.

Of the Disney animated classics,JB is one of my favs. I will definitely be seeing this in 3D when it comes out.

Does anyone know if this will have any of the classic songs in it?

Will we get to see Bill Murray's Baloo sing Bare Necessities in 3D? Because that would be amazing.

and the fact that this movie was shot with PACE Fusion 3-D rigs is a good sign that were getting an actual 3d experience.
