I will defer to you on the topic TJS. I just saw this quote from them in regards to why more copies were not being sold in the US:

"The Polish distributor will not be selling to the US in deference to all our work to release the films theatrically in the US"

No idea what that's supposed to mean. Milestone had theatrical releases touring the country from Jan 2014 through Jan 2015. I think it went on to the UK afterwards...

I guess the potential rights issues with Criterion will be avoided by not releasing in the US. I guess I can hope for Criterion releases. I'd be more excited by this prospect if CC had released Vol 2 of WCF...oh well.

According to the Milestone blog posting within the http://www.Criterionforum.org forum "A total of 700 sets have been made for the entire world and this is our allotment. Most will be sold in Poland or given away to funders. The Polish distributor will not be selling to the US in deference to all our work to release the films theatrically in the US, but I'm sure there will be sub-dealers who might be able to get them to you cheaper. It is possible at a later date that more sets will become available, but there's no promise of that and that it would take a good deal of time."

In a later post they note: "We're all a little surprised to say the least. So yes, we're trying to get more from Poland."

I suggest you track any more postings by Milestone by going to the Criterion forum.

What has happened with this blue box release of Martin Scorsese presents?
I can't seem to be able to find any review.
Also i just read the box is back in print for US/Canadian customers only.

Filmusic if you read my January 6th posting it kind of explained what happened to all the sets. There were a very limited amount allocated to various countries. Milestone Films is now taking emails for those wanting to be put on a waiting list. They're trying to get a few more to sell with a January 25, 2016 release date. I was fortunate to order it directly from Poland when it was first released by the Film Foundation. I don't know of any sites reviewing the set.

Did something get emailed from Milestone about this? I'm on their mailing list, but I didn't receive anything from them about this.

Shadedpain 4, I don't know if they sent emails to their prior customers. Another posting about this set made me link to their webpage. At the top of their site it still says sold out, but if you scroll down they note sending them another email, and they'll respond in kind. Go figure.

The Polish site is still selling the set but no longer shipping to the United States.

From milestone films:

Well the pace was a little off...this time we sold 92 box sets of “Martin Scorsese Presents Masterpieces of Polish Cinema” in just under 24 hours. There are 58 left in stock and we are working all weekend to get these shipped out ASAP... thank you to all our amazing customers and fans!
Hurry up

I was wondering if this set has been restricted to not ship to America ever since it came out on Poland? or was that restriction added when Milestone got their allotment?

The reason I ask is because it seems to be way cheaper there and since apparently it is the exact same set and region free, I am not sure why we need an intermediary, specially since the sets are not sold out yet in Poland.

I think Milestone may have had something to do with the films touring in the US last year.

And yes they were available direct for a bit, but it seems to be just Milestone now, for the US and Canada.

Maybe you could still get it shipped direct to Mexico if you ordered it direct? Link

How much is "way cheaper" for U.S. buyers? The original price was 399 Zloty ($100) and now it's 499 Zloty ($125). How much were they charging for shipping to the U.S.? If it's around $25 then it's still $150, which really isn't much cheaper than buying it from Milestone with free shipping.

Yeah I was talking about the original price, but don't really know how much was the shipping (based on Criterionforums I think it was around $15).

I still got it from Milestone, just next time I will be on the lookout for Vol 2 from Poland.

I would think next time there will be no US shipping from Poland right from the get go.

Bought a copy from Milestone. I was on the fence because of the price and because I already own three of the films (Man of Iron, Promised Land, and Hourglass Sanatorium) on Blu. Those all came as digibooks that I imported from Poland about 2 years ago. I haven't even gotten around to watching any of those three -- only had the chance to watch Man of Marble from those digibook releases (I have all five). It looked great, by the way.

So I wasn't sure how much of an improvement this collection would provide on those three films and I hated double-dipping. But I am so happy to retire my VHS of Camouflage and to get both Pharaoh and another Zanussi on blu, so I ended up biting. Looking forward to the set!!!

From what I read on criterionforum I think the ones already released are exactly the same transfers, I think these restorations have been going on for several years now, and just been completed recently.
