What's funny is that most people here are posting about Amy Schumer being awful and Sony being an inept film studio, yet the anti-anti-PC crew are making the most noise re: political correctness.

Speaking for myself, I dislike both SJWs and their most vocal opponents, but yes, I would say the latter group is worse because of their hypocrisy (pretending to be tougher and less sensitive than the SJWs when they're just as or even more so, while the SJWs at least own up to it) and often - but not always - leaning further to the right and I'm always going to dislike a right winger more than a left winger when they're equally or almost equally nutty. I'm biased like that, I admit.

Not really. Being overnight should never be considered "okay" given it's unhealthy. While from a superficial standpoint "cute chubby guys" have it a lot easier, women have been and can be accepted just fine at a larger size. Aren't people totally into Ashley Graham right now and she's a good size woman.

That said, most overweight actors who are successful are because they are talented. Kathy Bates, John Goodman, Jonah Hill, James Gandolfini...etc.

If they would have cast someone like Rebel Wilson as the chubby, outcast Barbie I'd totally watch the shit out of that movie. She's funny, has a likable personality, is cute as hell despite being a larger girl...just has all the right qualities that they are getting Amy for...just that Amy isn't funny or likable, IMO.

Schumer will play a character who lives in Barbieland, among all of the various Barbie characters beloved by doll collectors (there are dolls covering over 180 careers). In a fish-out-of-water story reminiscent of films like Splash and Big, Schumer’s Barbie gets kicked out, basically because she’s not perfect enough, is a bit eccentric and doesn’t quite fit the mold. She then goes on an adventure in the real world and by the time she returns to Barbieland to save it, she has gained the realization that perfection comes on the inside, not the outside, and that the key to happiness is belief in oneself, free of the obligation to adhere to some unattainable standard of perfection.

She's going to save Barbieland. If I was approached with this concept, I'd have to question my entire professional career.

I really hate the idea that little girls are growing up with body image issues because of Barbie or any dolls for that matter. Most body issues seem to start in someone's teens and a lot of it could come from school or media influences, not dolls they aren't playing with anymore. Now I praise doll companies for giving amputees, wheelchair bound kids and others with disabilities dolls, but a doll doesn't need to mimic everything about real people as it takes the novelty away from being a toy. This movie sounds like it is furthering the idea of needing to conform to everyone's standards. It's also why Mattel is losing sells hand over fist to stuff like Monster High and recently lost their Disney contracts.

Not that it should matter, but I think Amy Schumer is really pretty. I've enjoyed all of her standup too, but let's just say I'm no longer a fan.

And I can say that the synopsis sounds interesting, but I'll probably never see it. Here's hoping it can push through the hate and be a decent little movie.

Well if they've learned from their mistakes with Ghostbusters it may break through the hate. As long as they don't answer any criticism with "It's just because you hate women" they might be okay.

What a shocker to see all the usual usernames in this thread! (And I say that as one of the detractors in the Ghostbusters thread)! Two points:

1: Is this film going to be aimed at adults? What exactly is the issue with exploring female empowerment and body issues if the film is aimed at young girls/teens? It's a PG rated film made to sell mattel toys ffs, people are treating it like Ghostbusters when the problem Ghostbusters had was that they took a project that appeal to a certain demographic (boys and geeks) and purposefully aimed it at a completely new demographic whilst simultaneously insulting the old. This film appears to be aimed at the original, existing demographic.

2: Amy Schumer, how dare she be chubby and attempt comedy, I mean HOW DARE SHE. Yes she does steal jokes from other, perhaps funnier, comedians, but guess what: So has just about every other stand up artist who got over big in hollywood. Eddie Murphy anyone? Denis Leary? We could take this thread to 100 pages on this topic alone! I'm not sure what bearing a standup career has on performance in a film to begin with.
