It depends on the film. Generally speaking I prefer to have features, especially for old films, but there is a limit. I don't like discs that are stacked with features for the sake of it. I appreciate quality features, not supplemental material that's there to add bulk for fanboys.
In the DVD era I often refused to buy discs of films I loved if they had no features, that's why I waited for companies (especially Warner) to re-release their films as special editions. e.g Bladerunner, Amadeus, Batman (1989), Batman Returns etc. But now I don't care as much because there are more time constraints. I just don't have time to watch features all the time, but a good quality commentary track or documentary/featurette can definitely increase my appreciation and enjoyment of a particular film. In short, if I like the film enough I will buy it regardless, provided that the transfer is good and the price is right, but I prefer features to be included. |
