Default 5.25 vs 6.25

I"m building a game room in my basement and looking to install a 7.1 in wall setup, I'm debating whether I should spend the extra on a 6.25 and if it would make a difference. I"m not looking to get crazy audio since it's just a game room but I also want decent sound.

I will just say it totally depends on the speakers you wosh to use and what your budget is, did you target a particular speaker? Some 5.25 from a certain line or brand can be better than a 6.25 from another line or brand as you may know, If you have a budget set maybe we can better help you find the right speaker and also room size could play a role as the 6.25 may be attractive within the same line of speakers for the extra air discplacement.

For the same speaker line, the larger one will have a deeper response and allow you to cut off your bass management at a lower frequency, if you have a subwoofer, which will add more bass to your mains and make your subs cleaner and tighter, since they don't have to reproduce as much mid-bass.

Since there will be a sub-woofer involved, then I would say you can get away with the 5.25, however if it were me I would opt for the 6.25. Can you tell me what type of AVR you will have driving these ?

Sup bud,

That depends on the quality of the driver, but most of the time I'd go with the larger speaker size. I'm sending in my PBN Montana Mini monitors to this site for testing, comparisons, and more fun! The speakers weigh 25lbs each with only one 5" driver and a tweeter. These little guys sound better than many towers I've owned in the past....astonished at how low a 5 can get. I know there was a huge difference in cost, but still, unprecedented bass from a very small speaker....we'll see how it performs

Good luck with the game room, keep us posted!
