Default PS3 Production and Shipping ends in Japan

PlayStation 3 production comes to an end in Japan

Sony has formally ended production of the PlayStation 3 in Japan, according to PlayStation's official page (in Japanese, as seen by Gematsu). Clarification: This post and its headline were updated to specify that production and shipments have ended in Japan.

RIP Navster

Pretty sad. I still use mine daily, for blu-rays - and I have an oppo. I should check out the blu ray playback on the PS4 now - but there were some early issues I believe.

This got me a little nostalgic for my PS3, it doesn't get much use anymore, but for something to do, I took it apart, cleaned it out, reset to factory defaults and started it up. I downloaded a few games I haven't been near for years - Battlefield 3, Arkham Asylum - and enjoyed a few hours of classic PS3 action. I was amazed to find plenty of busy games running on BF3!!

I still have a "fat" day one console, but that suffered the yellow light of death, though I've always been tempted to have a go at fixing it.

Great console which gave me some amazing game experiences as well as ushering in the world of blu-ray films. Happy Days
