Default 42 inch LG or 46 inch Samsung

Ok guys, I've narrowed my choices down to two now. I need opinions for both TVs.

Someone is selling his 42 inch LG 42LB5D for 820 that comes with 3 year in store Best Buy warranty, on top of the 1 year factory warranty. Then there's a local store that's selling the Samsung 46 inch 540 series. Both are 1080p of course.. read reviews on both, and it's pretty much the same reviews. I'd like inputs from you guys. Thanks.

LET ME KNOW.

Yes.

You are much better off keeping the TV you have now. You bought it new right? Why switch it out for something used and an LCD? Unless there is something really wrong that I am not understanding - Plasma > LCD. Plasma can cut through steel like butta. Can LCD do that? I think not!

My whole concept of an HDTV was bright image, and plasmas dont usually have bright image, I bought it cuz u know its a plasma and is suppose to be the best hdtv out there. But I think I prefer LCD. SO any suggestions.

While long term the Plasma you have will be a better TV, If you are in fact going to switch it out to an LCD, then I suggest the Sammy. Samsung makes argueably the best LCD's on the market, & you will get the extra features that many manufactures only reserve for the higher end units. Blacks are some of the best for LCD's and color reproduction is great.

Do understand that there will be a drop in overall contrast and slight decrease in overall black level. Many people find it difficult moving from a plasma to an lcd. Some people do prefer LCDs over plasmas, I am one of them, but I can say that plasma as a technology is still better.

Your right. I guess I'm impatient with the whole break in thing. But I do prefer LCDs. I think if I were to switch, I'd go with the Samsungs. Im a budget guy, and I've purchased a lot of used items and I've never had any problems. I think my PS3 and Panny is the only item that I bought that was brand new, oh and my PC.

honestly, Pan th42pz80u is better then both of those tv's. It would be a downgrade if you returned it and got the Sam 5 series at least save up for the 650 if you don't like the 80u

being impatient is the reason why you have a VIERA right now, save your coin, get a 650 series... if not, you will have another thread next week complaining about your old series samsung

I'd also keep what you have, maybe you've already answered this but even after you tweaked your settings, you still aren't happy with the plasma?

And to answer your question, get the Sammy and try to get the 650.

i say go with the samsung but also consider saving up to get a model higher up.

plasmas are excellent tv's, but to say flat out that plasma is better for him without considering his personal needs and preferences in a tv is very biased. there are pros and cons to both.

You've obviously never watched a blu-ray played on a 60gb PS3 with a good hdmi cable and a 42 inch LG plasma..

Maybe LCD...but I am exceedingly happy with plasma..

Definitely Samsung over the LG.
Now if you are still looking consider one of Sony's W line

I just got my KDL 46W4100 today and cannot be any happier!
