Sarno Retrospect 03: All The Sins of Sodom / Vibrations is being prepped for Blu-Ray / Streaming. The series brings together Sarno films from the Pop Cinema and Something Weird Video film library (all remastered to HD). Press release when? On Joe Sarno's birthday, of course! (March 15)

Interesting to see Sodom listed as an upcoming BD - was the VS disc limited due to them only having the rights for a brief period?

I believe that SIN IN THE SUBURBS is being worked on, as well.

LOST SARNO MOVIE THE NAKED FOG Expands Sarno Archive and Joe Sarno Retrospect Series

March 15, 2017

Film preservation organization Film Media announced today it has begun restoration on a 35mm print of Joseph W. Sarno’s 1966 film THE NAKED FOG. Once restored, HD assets for THE NAKED FOG will be scheduled for theatrical screenings, DVD / Blu-Ray and Digital release as part of the Joseph W. Sarno Retrospect Series under the Film Movement Classics label.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJy2Bv3wunw

Previously considered a “lost” film, little information about THE NAKED FOG is available online. What is known, is that THE NAKED FOG was produced the same year as Sarno’s seminal MOONLIGHTING WIVES and shares several cast and crew members including leads Tammy Latour and Gretchen Rudolph. A rare THE NAKED FOG pressbook reveals the movie was marketed as “A Picture that Dares to Reveal the Truth about Sin!” Film Media owner Michael Raso sheds further light on the discovery and film...

"Lisa Vraney of Something Weird Video sent me an e-mail with a link to an ebay film lot auction that included a 35mm print of THE NAKED FOG. Having assumed all prints were destroyed or lost years ago, the print is in surprisingly good condition, and I believe fans of Joe’s movies and exploitation in general will be very pleased with the post-restoration results. Although THE NAKED FOG shares some situations and themes with Joe’s other films of that era – middle class prostitution rings, swinging suburbanites - the lead Marge, played by Tammy Latour, exhibits much less agency than is typical in a Sarno heroine. She claims to be a writer, but we never see her write. Instead, she drifts from one city and one man to another, always seeking, never satisfied. As we journey with her, we meet a variety of characters grappling with their own psycho-sexual impulses, and it’s in these complicated interactions we see Joe’s deft hand. All in all, it’s an exciting discovery and one I’m thrilled to be able to share with fans soon."

NAKED FOG is the newest addition to the Film Media archive of movies by noted exploitation director Joe Sarno. Working with the Sarno Estate, Film Media continues its mission to collect and preserve as many Sarno films as possible under one roof.

Volume 1 of the Joe Sarno Retrospect (Vampire Ecstasy / Sin You Sinners) was released on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital on October 25, 2016. Details on the 2017 release schedule is forthcoming.

FILM MEDIA TO RESTORE LOST SARNO MOVIE WARM NIGHTS AND HOT PLEASURES

May 10, 2017 – Film preservation organization Film Media announced today it has begun restoration on a 35mm print of Joseph W. Sarno’s “lost” 1964 film WARM NIGHTS AND HOT PLEASURES. Once restored, HD assets for WARM NIGHTS AND HOT PLEASURES will be scheduled for theatrical screenings, DVD / Blu-Ray and Digital release as part of the Joseph W. Sarno Retrospect Series under the Film Movement Classics label. The upcoming release marks the first-time WARM NIGHTS AND HOT PLEASURES will be available to home entertainment since its initial theatrical run.

The 35mm print of WARM NIGHTS AND HOT PLEASURES was recently discovered in the vaults of Audubon Films, owned by pioneering filmmaker Radley Metzger, who had purchased and distributed the film to theaters in North America. Film Media would like to thank film historian Michael Bowen and director Scooter McCrae for their role in the acquisition of this title.

Cinematography for WARM NIGHTS AND HOT PLEASURES is by James J Markos, who also worked with Sarno on his early seminal films SIN IN THE SUBURBS and NUDE IN CHARCOAL.

Before achieving international fame with his 1969 Swedish breakout film Inga, director Joe Sarno honed his craft on a handful of erotic dramas shot in the USA. In 1964’s Warm Nights and Hot Pleasures, Joe tells the tale of three ambitious college girls who head to New York City, eager to make their mark on Broadway. Short on funds, the girls rent a room from a men’s magazine model and are soon immersed in a lurid world of wild parties, risque men’s clubs and sleazy casting couches. Lessons are learned and hearts are broken as each one decides just how far she will go for stardom.

Featuring Bettie Page-style bondage and female wrestling, Warm Nights and Hot Pleasures is a sultry snapshot of Manhattan of the early 1960s.

WARM NIGHTS AND HOT PLEASURES is the newest addition to Film Media’s archive of Joseph Sarno films, to be released as the Joseph W. Sarno Retrospective, featuring liner notes by film historian Tim Lucas.

DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital Encodes of Vampire Ecstasy / Sin You Sinners, release 1 in the series, can be found at all leading retail and e-tailers including Amazon, FilmMovement and Alternative Cinema. Working with the Sarno Estate, Film Media continues to collect and preserve all existing Sarno films under one roof.

I wonder if Film Media are aware that Vinegar Syndrome already released All the Sins of Sodom on blu-ray? Technically not first time on blu-ray for that film, not that it matters since the VS release is sold out anyway. Good news for anyone who missed out on that solid release.

Looks like Hana-Bi is coming too. Preorder up at diabolik and amazon..com. I already have the third window films release, as well as the Korean amaray, but I'd consider triple dipping if there was anything new other than the booklet.

All the sins of sodom definitely has a better transfer than the vs one. The vs one is overly bright and soft this ones darker and more clear. It looks AMAZING!! The only problem is the movie did skip 2 1/2 minutes in. Not sure if it was only my copy. If anyone else can check On this I’d really appreciate it. From 2:36-2:41 specifically.

More news from my Cinema Arcana FB Page:

“It will haunt the darkest corners of your mind!” Excellent news for fans of underseen Eurohorror – FilmMedia have the Blu debut of Marijan Vajda’s BLOODLUST (aka Mosquito der Schänder, 1977) scheduled for 2018!

Austrian character actor and Eurotrash mainstay Werner Pochath stars as a deaf-mute accountant still suffering from a childhood filled with abuse. Ostracized by his neighbors and coworkers for his weird ways and collection of dolls, he tries to keep his deeper, darker desires at bay, but they eventually overtake him, guiding him to a local cemetery. Beginning with blood drinking and corpse mutilation, his cravings are initially satisfied, but how long until he needs fresher sources?

A bleak and moody outing that’s about as twisted and perverse as they come, BLOODLUST stands alongside other grim character studies like Gerald Kargl’s ANGST (1983) and Ulli Lommel’s not dissimilar TENDERNESS OF THE WOLVES (1973), with a captivating central performance and an all-enveloping, suffocating air of sickness. Based on the true life case of Kuno Hofmann (the “Vampire of Nuremberg”), it’s a black marriage of ‘70s arthouse and necro-sleaze, and certainly worthy of being better known.

Though it saw tape in England, Japan, Germany, etc. during the ‘80s VHS boom, curious Stateside fans mostly had to settle for traded bootlegs, with BLOODLUST not gaining legit release until 1999 when EI Cinema picked up the rights for its official domestic debut. Unfortunately, their tape was just in time for the DVD revolution, and a lot of horror fans had already moved onto more digital pastures.

Some questionable discs have come and gone, but seventeen years later we’re getting the real deal. FilmMedia’s upcoming Blu-Ray features a new scan from the original German negative, straight from the vault of producer Chris Nebe. Extras are slated to include liner notes from journalist Michael Gingold. Expect more details next month, and watch this space for pre-order information!

Announced for late summer is volume 4 in the Sarno series. The set will offer new 2K transfers of SIN IN THE SUBURBS and CONFESSIONS OF A YOUNG AMERICAN HOUSEWIFE. There will also be a third feature entitled WARM NIGHTS AND HOT PLEASURES. The latter will probably be in standard def.

SIN IN THE SUBURBS will have two audio commentary tracks, one with Tim Lucas, and the other track will have Mike Vraney, Frank Hennenlotter, and Joe and Peggy Sarno.

SIN IN THE SUBURBS plays like a road company production of Kubrick's EYES WIDE SHUT. It stars Audrey Campbell, who starred in the first three OLGA films. Her daughter is played by the actress who assumed the "Olga" persona for the fourth Olga film, MME. OLGA'S MASSAGE PARLOR (which sadly remains lost as of this writing).
