Encouraging to see that some of these titles wished for have come out. I'm hoping for a bluray of Thoroughly Modern Millie. It's a hilarious musical comedy and Julie Andrews is at her most beautiful in it.

See below for my comments about the overall worthwhile French BluRay of Sweet Charity.

Ditto. One of my top 3 movies I want on blu-ray, as is another Universal musical Flower Drum Song.

I wonder why we lost out?
My belief is just laziness and unwilling to spend a few extra dollars for a sound restoration, on Xanadu, Best Little *****house, Jesus Christ Superstar too.

Xanadu does have a great sounding audio track on blu-but it is not the soundtrack used in theaters, most of the surround channel is gone, and believe me, this movie had very heavy use of its surrounds, it is one of the reasons I took the bus 12 times from college to downtown Minneapolis to see it at the Skyway Theater, where they had the volume cranked, and the laserdisc kept the great surrounds. This is one of those few movies where I believe they downgraded the soundtrack by removing 90% of the surround effects.

I saw Best Little *****house at the same theater in Minneapolis in 4 track stereo, I knew the projectionist and we had quite a nice visit before showtime, and I saw the mag track myself. For the DVD, Universal also released a stereo surround track that does not sound at all to me like what I heard at the Skyway Theater. All they had to do was go back and restore the 4 track, because I remember so much more stereo separation. Also, while watching either the DVD or blu-ray, you will notice the center channel is much louder that the left and right channels, so in order to get a really good stereo effect you need to really turn up your left and rights.

I have always hoped for a better audio track on Jesus Christ Superstar. I also saw this in Minneapolis 6 times in a 2 weeks period and remember the soundtrack well. I noticed what they did was for the music recording to the final soundtrack, they basically mixed the entire rock band part of the score into the center channel, and used the left and right for the orchestral instruments. Unfortunately, the final result of this is awful. The rock instruments (guitars, drums, ect) sound awful in the center channel, while the orchestra sounds nice and bright, it does not combine well. All of the soundtrack CD releases and albums are the same. What Universal could have done is gone back to the audio stems and remixed the entire musical score. We all know that all of the elements of this soundtrack were recorded in stereo and in talking years back online with one of the audio engineers of this film soundtrack, they mixed down the rock band part of the score to the center channel, they DO have the stems with that part in stereo. I didn't want to seem mean so I did not say anything but I was dying to ask him why would they even think of downmixing the important part of the soundtrack into mono and leave stereo for the orchestral instruments. What I remember in the theater is ALL of the instruments were in stereo, I remember the cymbals and drums in great stereo, not moved all into the center.

Being that this is Universal, I doubt we will ever see remasters of these 3 soundtracks, which is really sad.

Would sell my... ex-wife's soul for this to hit bluray.

Tied for #1 on my top three musicals.
Of course I'll also see it every chance I get when the live show passes through either way.
