Germany The Ring - 4 of 5 of the JPN Films (1998 - 2001) [Ringu / Rasen / Ringu 2 / Ringu 0]

The Japanese film series The Ring is getting released in Germany on November 22, 2012. The original four films, minus Sadako 3D, are being released by Sony Pictures Germany. Each of the four films will contain Japanese and German audio in DTS-HD MA 5.1 and German subs. Most likely Region B locked.

It's good for me, I was planning on getting those Japanese Blu-rays, but, since German is my second language, I'll be getting these instead.

I can say that these disks use the same excellent encode as the Japanese releases, so for those wanting to know if they differ in looks, they do not.

Sweet. I am planning on getting these. Palisades Tartan said that on their Facebook that they might do a Blu-ray. So, who knows. We might get a U.S. release.

I received my copies of Italian and German Ringu releases and although I didn't have much time to compare them all, I checked (my favourite) Ringu 0: Basudei and while it's still not perfect, I can say Italian release blows away German release in terms of video quality - picture on German one is too bright, looks very muddy with many compression artifacts and macroblocking. I am sure both of them used the same transfer but encoding was obviously different since Italian one looks much nicer - it retains the grain and has deeper blacks. I enclose some comparison screenshots (looks better in motion):

Figures. I wish someone would put this out in an English-friendly version.

A release was supposed to come out in Australia, but it was cancelled again. Hopefully, it's a sign that someone somewhere is making a new transfer.

It was a trilogy set of the American versions that was supposed to come out in Australia, but got cancelled, not the Japanese versions.

Arrow have released Dark Water and are releasing Pulse in a month, and have said more J-horror will follow, so I'm hoping they'll put out the Ring films in the UK (and maybe also the US).

I received the German Blu-ray of Ringu recently and can confirm it is Region B locked as you predicted. I have the other three releases on the way and will confirm the Region code of each title.

Note that Amazon.DE sometimes has all four Ringu titles as part of a promotion: ten titles for 50 Euros. There are many titles to choose from and the selection changes very frequently.

Sure wish the iconic RINGO as well as JU-ON were available on decent Blu's here in the states.
