According to caps-a-holic, the bitrate is actually better on the US discs for parts 2, 3, 6 and 7:

part 2
------

DE - 17986
US - 31475

part 3
------

DE - 17989
US - 23963

part 6
------

DE - 18995
US - 22515

part 7
------

DE - 17995
US - 18445

Indeed, I don't see even a mild improvement with the German discs on caps-a-holic with parts 2, 3 or 6. There may be a tad bit better grain structure for part 7, but the bitrate is almost the same as the US. Of course the German discs have 2.0 audio also, though I haven't heard any confirmation if those 2.0 tracks are the original audio or just downmixes.

To me it looks like the biggest improvements with the mediabooks are for parts 4, 5 and 8.

Anyone know if the recent listings for the parts 1 and Jason Goes to Hell mediabooks on D&T are also from '84? I would assume so, but just making sure.

I believe that they actually are not 84 which sucks cause I wanted the uniform spines especially since they're also doing Jason X and Freddy vs. Jason

Part 1 and Jason Goes to Hell are Warner titles in Germany, so you're probably right and it's very likely that 84 has nothing to do with those Mediabooks.

Disappointing, but perhaps some of the same people are involved as the encoding on the '84 releases is better than Paramount's and they also have the original 2.0 audio (I was also hoping for the JGTH Unrated cut to appear in hd).

Correct, these aren't '84 releases.
They come from Warner in collaboration with a shop called Alphamovies. Thus, these are just the old discs in new shiny (extremely expensive) packaging. Part 9 is R-rated, of course, but the Unrated version is on the (old) DVD.

Regarding part 5,6, did they keep french audio tracks? they should if they're the same Paramount disks! iam fed up to wait for us re-releases.

So these upcoming titles aren't even new transfers?

No. The '84 releases contain English and German audio. They are not the same as the Paramount discs.

No. That would be far too expensive. No chance to make that investment back. [That being ironic and stuff...]

Wouldn't Jason Goes To Hell and Jason X have to be new discs, since they were together on a single disc in the US box set?

Let me put it this way: They should.
But who knows? Probably they'll put the old disc in both Mediabooks. Hey, they'll have two nice cover artworks. And the old DVD's. That should be enough... *cough*

They reused the same double disc in both new Mediabook Releases as before; itīs a bit of a shame. If you just want the movies, you should only buy Jason Goes To Hell, because of the included unrated cut on the included DVD...
