Wow thank you for this... I'm pretty bummed. I almost was gonna get the Samsung, but you think A1 Sony is the best... I do stream Netflix and Amazon a lot. What 4K Player do you have?

I would go for Sony A1 if you stream much and it would be better then LG oled.I have a Panasonic UB700 4K player.

Not sure what you mean by tweak the black levels it's damn near perfect black levels as is only oled gets blacker and not by much at that outside of that a calibration app like control cal MIGHT let you adjust voltage levels to drop the black levels a tad bit further

Ok, but the blacks on my KRP500 looks worse then my vt60 is, plus I have a red tint in the blacks, so then I need to fix that with to go in the service menu to get my black back and the red tint gone, that is what I have found out by googling it.So for now, the black suck on my KRP500 and red tint to them, so I need to reset it via the service menu.but I need some cables to do it or can I do via my harmony 950?

Yes you can make the black level lower. The 50" 500M, 101FD, and 500A can go darker than other models. They can get to 0 blacks.

You need control cal and proper cables if you don't have access with a remote.

Researching this on the AVSForums I see there is there is a well documented issue about LG OLED exaggerate noise and also shadow detail tends to be lost(at least if it's not calibrated correctly)

That is right.noticed a lot of noise on BD on my B6 and my VT60 has a cleaner look to it and hides it better and has great shadow details, but Oled for HDR is amazing.Sony A1 is better because of its smooth gradation then LG is.

I was recently given (yes, for free!) a 2008 Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-151FD by a high school classmate, as he bought an LG OLED. Needless to say, it's an amazing TV, far better than my 2011 Panasonic plasma, but until I can see some sort of comparison between them I'm very reticent to upgrade. He makes at least 3x what I do, so spending $2k on a new set isn't an option right now.
I've been trying to access the service menu, but can't seem to do so without a special remote. How can this be done without it, and is there a screenshot comparison between the aforementioned sets? Also, there seems to be a slight reddish tinge in the black areas; it's not really noticeable unless the whole screen is blank, but I'd like to adjust it if possible. I applied the D-Nice calibration settings with some slight tweaking, and it does look amazing but I can't get rid of the red cast.

On some pioneer models you can eliminate the red tint to blacks -itís a common problem to pioneer plasmas 8 and 9g

You have to go go into the service menu and tweak voltages

Procedures are well laid out on avsforum OR Britainís avforum

I did this on a krp500m and now have OLED like blacks with none of the uniformity issues or poor motion resolution of of OLED

If you canít be bothered doing the service menu tweaks some calibrators can do it for you

I replaced my 9g Kuro after it got the red tint of death. At the time (summer 2010) a local calibrator wouldn’t even attempt at eliminating the red tint. I replaced it with a Panny ST50, which was terrible by comparison. Replaced that with a Panny VT60. Very close in pic quality, but not quite. That panel suffered from image retention and burn in- which I never saw on my Kuro. Strike 3 for plasma. Sold it and bought an LG Oled. Pic quality is on par with the Kuro. Not to mention 65” vs 50”? No contest.

So my Kuro PRO-151FD has been my "reference" display for 9 and a half years now. Still going strong!

But last week I got tempted by a sale on the 65" LG OLED C7, to replace a wonky Samsung LCD in the living room.

I'm really impressed by the LG. It beats the Kuro! Black levels are better, and the size improvement from 60" to 65" is noticeable. Something about 65" or bigger displays.. you can get almost a 3D-effect with really good HD, and a lot of UHD. Something I could never get with the Kuro, but saw many times on even those old 73" Mitsubishi Diamond RP HDTVs.

I'm going to hang onto my Kuro in the media room for a bit... I'd prefer to replace it with a 4K front projector, but I'm not sure if there's anything in the <$5K range that is going to outperform the LG. I'd even consider the 77" LG OLED, but I think that will be crazy expensive.

We just started an aggressive promotion on all three 77" OLED TVs.

Thanks for the info. I wish they had the 3D feature, I am most likely going to go down the projector route now which offers 3D.

I asked this question in another forum but got no response.

Regarding motion, what is it with how plasma handles this that's inherently better than LED/OLED and why does LED/OLED seem to struggle to match it? I would've thought LED/OLED development would've caught up by now but it's still an ongoing sticking point amongst plasma owners as to why they won't make the jump to LED/OLED. Is it just impossible to match plasma because of the nature of the tech?

Can you be more specific? I don't find my LG OLED's handling of motion to be worse than my Kuro. And I spent lots of time with Spears & Munsil V2 Blu-ray looking at all the test patterns. Sure, the deinterlacing could use a bit of work, but watching most TV content, and all UHD content, it's perfectly fine.

Steelmaker: Yeah I find LG Oled 7 series to have worse motion than my panasonic VT60 plasma also despite what others say. 24p isn't shown the same on all tvs.

One thing I "think" might make a big difference is that the LG oled 8 series this year have black frame insertion. That is known for making the picture more fluid/smooth or what you want to call it. LG hopes it's even better than Sony oleds that have the best oled motion for now to my eyes.

Sadly LG have always been a little behind sony/panasonic in the software department and hopefully they catch up with their new processor.
