I have darts league night on Tuesday but never fear, Valentines Day is right around the corner and what doesn't say true love like a cannibalistic psychiatrist.

I have the Digital 4k. Has anybody compared their Criterion version to it to see which is better?

Damn, that's early. You'll probably even get it before Tuesday. Amazon Prime: I'm beginning to question you.

Yeah, Amazon usually ships a day or two before release day. But nowadays they use their own cockamamie shipping service, which basically consists of independent contractors. I have had my problems with it recently. In the end, they usually deliver on time. More often than not, they are usually at the house earlier than the Postal Service.

I was replying to the guy who said Best Buy had shipped his order on Thursday - 5 days before street date. I don't remember Amazon ever shipping something to me early. But I agree with you on the contractors Amazon uses to ship packages. The couriers are usually kids who typically leave packages on sidewalks unattended. They use my side street curb as a staging area sometimes, rain or shine. I've seen it happen countless times.

It and "Drag Me to Hell" just arrived.

The pictures of the case really undersell it's beauty in person.

Is this a thick chipboard box like Nova Media releases or the ZATOICHI box, or is it the thin cardboard like the LONE WOLF box?

I'm going to assume it's the standard thickness Criterion puts their boxed films in. I have 7 that came in box cases and they are all exactly the same thickness. They all look good and seem pretty sturdy and held up in the mail, and I'm not aware of the other companies you referenced. So I don't know how they compare.

Iíve done a Manhunter/Red Dragon double feature before. Itís tedious watching two versions of the same story back-to-back like that. I prefer Red Dragon and if it lined up immediately after Manhunter then I just spend the entirety of Manhunter wishing I was watching Red Dragon. If your preference goes the other way then watching the inferior version immediately must make it suffer greatly.

Now that the Hannibal TV series has offered up a third version of Red Dragon the two-film matchup seems incomplete.

Iíll actually be watching all of the movies too though, but in release order. Iíve been reading the books leading up and I probably should be reading right now instead of posting because I havenít even finished with Red Dragon, though I actually started with Black Sunday. Iíve got a lot of reading ahead of me this weekend. At least Hannibal Rising is mercifully short because itís more of a novelization than a novel.

Release order is absolutely the way to go with the movies because Hannibal Rising is a horrible introduction to the character. Iím less-opposed to watching Red Dragon first but it really was designed to be watched after Silence, there were elements of Lecterís first appearance in the hospital that were trimmed because theyíd already been done in Silence and the Clarice teaser at the end doesnít work if youíre watching it as the first movie.

Manhunter is its own thing though, it isnít connected to any of the others. I think Iíll watch it alone on Monday and the other 4 on Tuesday. Rising at least was supposed to align with the Hopkins films with Ulliel (poorly) attempting to mimic his performance. I believe they tried to get Hopkins to appear in framing sequences and narrate it too.
