The Massdrop X NuForce EDC IEM arrived today. Gave them a quick spin on the iPhone. Sounds pretty darn good. I'll give them a go on the Woo a bit later tonight. See what they got.

I think headphone stands are cool.
However, I have two issues with them:
1. They rarely have the height to accommodate the extended length of plugged in audio cables (but the Massdrop one looks like it has more height, which is awesome!).
2. When you have 10+ headphones, owning 10+ headphone stands no longer makes sense haha

So, I have this (old pic from post #17 in this thread):
To be, or not to be. That is the question?

I don't have the Clear nor even heard them yet, but I do have the Elear. I have quite a few HP's and when I put these up against all the others, I really like them. They have their shortcomings for sure (what HP doesn't) but also have some really strong attributes to their sound.
First off, they are so dynamic. There's just a ton of sound coming at you where it almost shocks you. I've never heard a more dynamic headphone before. They have excellent detail overall across the spectrum. They definitely have a warmish sound to them which are very musical and not really per say an audiophile "purist" headphone like a HD800 (S)

The bass extends pretty deep into the sub bass with not too much roll off with great detail and clarity. The bass is pretty fast with good decay. They have some good slam too. They tuning emphasizes the bass with a nice mid-bass bump, giving them that warm engaging musical sound signature. I've read reviews where they're called a super HD650. I don't hear that "at all" and think they're smokin something. The biggest complaint from many Head-fiers and from SBAF is they dog the midrange complaining of the "huge" mid suck out. Even though I hear a slight recess in the mids, I don't think it's as bad as what some say. Sure the Elear can have a somewhat V shape and emphasized bass (but not really extended into the treble, thus the reason for saying somewhat V shaped) because of the mids, but nothing that would deter me from liking them. They can be EQ'd as many do which I personally don't as I like them as they are. I just don't think it's that bad but that's only my opinion...like many others.
The treble is where I have the most issues. It's detailed and can extend up never getting sibilant, but it can have a slpashy kind of sound, maybe even a bit tinny. That's whay I like to use tube amps as you can roll in a set of tubes if you have a variety and can come close to fixing it. I have 3 sets of tubes I use with the Elear and every one of them basically fixes the issue enough where I actually can say I like the treble. For me they pair much better with a tube amp versus a solid state.
Overall if you can get them used for under $600, that's a pretty good deal and something that wouldn't be a bad idea to give them a shot. Of course test driving them first would be best.
I hope that helps a bit. Again, just 1 guys opinion man as I'm not expert, just someone who enjoys the sounds and doesn't get all too critical.

Trying out/demoing an Elear now, just got it in today, and it is absolutely the most dynamic 'normal' headphone I have heard...along with pretty impressive detail. We are talking near STAX L300 driven off a higher end DAC and AMP level of dynamics and detail here... absolute insanity for a dynamic headphone. Once I get more of a feel for it will give more thoughts... but yeah it impresses from song one. The highs though, yeah its not a relaxing listen...it's a fairly in-your-face tuned headphone. Going to see how long it takes for me to get a headache with these... LOL.

How is the Elear going / breaking in now?

My AFO's should be broken in now and I am totally satisfied.

I actually had a whole two weeks off HP's. I had a lot of crap in my life go on. I have issues and was not in the right mental place so I checked myself in for help. Home now with meds.

Been there and almost done that. Now Iím frank about it. I checked myself in and told them to put me to sleep for a few days. After a few days I went back to work and resigned. Bloody work was destroying me. Real awful people. Now looking for a new job. This year is going to be tough. First hurdle is cleared tho.

Hey man. Sorry to hear about your setback. I'm just really glad your'e taking care of YOU!! Screw work man. I wish I had the balls like you as I'd like to do the same where I've worked the past 35 years. They're cutthroat and not good people at all.
I kind of know what you're talking about but could never know how you feel. I'm open about my situations and strightforward/blunt about too so if you ever want to let loose, I'm here bro.
Take care man!

I just got my first pair of cans for PC gaming the Mass Drops AKG K7xx's. I'm installing a Mod Mic 5.0 on them. They already seem a lot better than any gaming headset I've had (Astro A40s and A50s, Sennheiser 373D). I am powering them using the Fiio 10k. Hopefully this little thing has enough juice for these.. I don't know much about it. The Fiio plugs in via USB right to my PC.

I have the AKG K701 and the AKG Q702. Both are essentially the same headphone, but the "Q" is Quincy Jones sponsored, and has detachable headphone cable(s).
- They are very fast, with excellent high-mid to high range, with a low amount of bass.
- Light, comfortable, and rest easy on the ears.
- SPACIOUS soundstage. These have a wide, wide open back sound.

For gaming, they are outstanding headphones. The fast, clear audio with quick decay; the wide sound stage; no bass bleeding into other audio ranges; being comfortable to wear for longer periods of time; and the crisp treble all make for a very gamer-friendly headphone.
To be, or not to be. That is the question?

Great review on these. I listened to music on them and they blow away any other headphones I've had. They're so addicting. I'm wondering if I should have gotten a different amp for them though. On my pc I have to put the volume at max in Windows and on the amp itself I have to go more than half to enjoy them. I think I'm at either 5 or 6 on the amp out of 8 clicks on it. Is that normal? Thanks

I agree music is addicting on these and I even have 2 nice sets of home theater setups for music as well. I've been playing my best in shooters on pc too because of how incredibly spacious the soundstage is.

I'll be comparing these to the sennheiser hd 650s in a few months and giving my fiance whichever one I like less for her new pc build I'm building.

Picked up a 2nd hand Schiit Lyr for a nice price to dive into the tube amp space. I feel I have made a mistake, now I am hooked and even on a lower end one!

Using the Oppo HA-1 for the DAC and pre-amp stage and will likely go back and forth between the two as they both have very different sounds.

Only have tried my HD 800 S on it so far but will try out the LCD-Xs later. I am excited!

Yeah, they need a decent amp to make them sound best.
