No return for us as we make too much money but we managed to break even do to our home. However, the Wife & I have a upcoming trip to Vegas for 5 days in April to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

Great job! Keep grinding away, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Yeah, I've been putting a little away each month, but this tax return was my biggest one yet, so I decided to just put the entire thing into savings instead of spending any of it. Better to have a safety cushion.

Congrads on the wedding anniversary. How many years is it?
The world (Society) even classifies people according to different levels of honesty. Sometimes we hear of people who are “very” honest, “mostly” honest, or even “a little” honest.

Should we even use modifiers with the word honest? I don’t believe so. There are no degrees of honesty. Either we are honest or we aren’t.

I think you're referring to the mortgage interest deduction which still exists if you end up itemizing your deductions. However, the biggest trade off with the increased standard deduction is the loss of the personal exemptions. Some families were better off with the personal exemptions compared to the larger standard deduction since the change will cause some families to have more taxable income. What offsets this for most people is the lower federal tax brackets.

I'll probably pay one or two bills with the $200 or so I get back. Paid in 15k in state and federal income taxes and I never get back shit because no kids or house. Tax time pisses me off.

Hopefully that is out of choice?

Just finished doing my returns.

I made more money last year and consequently owed more money this year.

...I'm thinking about becoming a Republican.

Do what I do: "contribute" more money to your weekly State/City tax deduction (if you get paid weekly) and use that "windfall" to pay off your taxes next year. My Local tax refund jumped from an average of $46 to just over $1,000. Actually, not sure if this will work for you but it's worth investigating

BTW, does anyone know how long it takes to receive a tax refund if you mailed in your return but chose to have the money deposited directly into a checking account? It's been a couple of weeks and still no refund

When I get my tax refund, I'll end up buying this from Walmart.
