I posted on screams page yesterday about the whole price issue. Today the post and other posts about the situation have all been deleted. So I posted again calling them out. They deleted that too. I highly doubt anything is being done about this.

I sent them a private message to which they replied saying that there are 2 sides to every story and the matter is much more complex than we understand but that they are actively working with the sales dept to get this issue resolved.

Which they've been saying for months. It must be a real top-heavy bureaucracy if it takes this long to make a change.

I have no hate towards scream themselves as whatever is going on is coming from high up the chain of command but until it's resolved all of my pre orders have been cancelled.

I don't know why they insist on turning this into an X-File.

The final specs on their blu-ray of The Mangler puts me into a bind.

Miss out on upgrading a movie I got on laserdisc which is now obsolete with this release or give the devil more money. Fudge, this is hard.

Higher prices bug everyone but my issue isn't with the prices themselves so much as it is with the way they've chosen to go about implementing things. If Scream Factory wants to present itself as a premium brand then there are a few simple things they could/should do.

-Upgrade the cases. Viva Elites were the bare minimum for a collectors line. Recent releases have all been coming in a variety of other style cases though, all, of which are arguably lesser quality. Want to be considered premium? Upgrade the physical presentation. Use Criterion/Arrow style cases and like Nightbreed/Creepshow, use special chipboard boxes or other thicker packaging for the truly special editions.

-Start including booklets with the original pressings instead of trying to gouge collectors for $70 by including a Neca figure.

-Stop the whole "order from us and get a free poster" act. Include the Posters in the first pressing run the way Arrow does and call it a day. Folded posters included inside the case are unfortunately folded yes, but they aren't mangled to shit by mishandling and they don't require any other special consideration when shipping, thus saving Scream Factory money.

-Increase the MSRP on a per title basis while still negotiating with individual retailers. $34.95 - $39.95 MSRP's mean some retailers will sell at or close to that amount. Other retailers will sell titles at a discounted rate of $19.99 - $34.99 depending on the title and it's MSRP. Yeah higher prices suck, but if I can actively shop around to the retailer of my choice, use gift cards to off set higher prices, and have the knowledge that not all titles are going to be priced at the high end of the scale, I can probably forgive the few the are. Get Shorty and Creepshow as they were released do not offer the same level of presentation. Don't act like all products are created equal. Want me to buy from your own storefront and not a different retailer? Give me a real incentive to do so. Arrow Points are but one example of how to do this. Another easier example? Free shipping on a $35 purchase, not $50.

-If you're going to increase prices across the board then you also have to work with retail partners to have actual sales. Look at what Arrow does in the UK and emulate that. At the bare minimum look at what Criterion does and copy that. Even better, work with select retailers to offer a special sale where titles are marked down 50 - 60% off. Sales like this encourage me to overspend and pick up everything I can as opposed to just deciding that I'm probably never going to purchase a particular title from Shout Factory. I never would have purchased the Strangers had it not been on sale in a Best Buy location for $13.99.

I posted on their page last week with a picture of their response to a question I asked them about their pricing strategy, the post was deleted and I was banned from their Facebook page. I find it poor strategy/dumb business to when you as a company are screwing up orders, not getting orders out in time, shipping bent posters, ect ect probably when you're at your worst isn't the time to start getting a pissy attitude and alienating customers. You catch more flies with honey, don't take your incompetence out on the customers.

Elegantly put, TripleHBK.

Its one thing for Lionsgate to do this with the Vestron line, but at least their slipcovers are super pretty so the somewhat high prices balance out a little (wish they would get rid of the eco cases, though)....so yeah, if they want to go premium, they make it reflect in the overall quality of their releases too.

Not saying go all Mondo Vision on us, but at least put more effort than the standard "here's a chintzy slipcover and if you pre-order directly, even though we severely limited the places you can obtain our titles, we'll throw in a poster with an artificially increased price, you suckers ha ha".

I mean, the idea of Code Red blus being much easier to obtain than Shout! blus even a mere year ago was completely absurd, but here we are.

Shout! implementing an award points system like Arrow and 88 Films would be great, but I bet they would do it in a half-assed way as usual.

I think TripleHBK is on point with his post. I’d argue that diversified art work for CEs would be nice too. I appreciate Devon Whitehead’s work, and some of the others but I feel like the repeated use of the same few people across multiple labels kind of lessens the specialness of it all. Also I feel some of the artists implement the same design but just swap out the characters to obviously correspond with that particular film. I don’t outright hate anything other than Brian DePalma’s Obsession art but I do feel that aspect needs to be stepped up too.

So many dutch angles from the POV of the protagonist’s back facing the monster, floating heads, or the villain centered right in the middle with stuff swirling around them.

Criterion and VS have it right with their original art. Look at Disconnected, Star Time, House of the Dead, Blood Harvest, Wonder Women, etc. all different and well designed.

Were you logged in when you ordered? I couldn't find an order on another site and emailed them - they wrote back that I checked out as a guest. It felt kind of silly but it happens.

On the subject of Shout deleting user comments on social media - that's absolutely despicable. Erase all the negative info and keep only the good ones. I wish I could do that with my credit report.
