Default RoboCop (1987) (Limited Edition)

Quote:
Description
PART MAN, PART MACHINE, ALL COP

RoboCop, from Orion Pictures, marked director Paul Verhoeven’s (Flesh + Blood) Hollywood debut and instantly became an enduring sci-fi/action classic when it landed in theaters in the summer of 1987. Verhoeven’s peerlessly exciting and kinetic visuals were matched by a sharp script, iconic cast and exceptional special effects by Rob Bottin (The Thing) and Phil Tippett (The Empire Strikes Back).

The film takes place in Detroit in the not-too-distant future. Heroic cop Alex Murphy (Peter Weller, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai) is gunned down in the line of duty, only to be resurrected as RoboCop – a cybernetic mix of spare human parts and Motor City steel, and the latest defense against crime designed by the all-powerful OCP Corporation. As RoboCop’s memories of his former life as Murphy resurface, only his ex-partner (Nancy Allen, Dressed To Kill) stands beside him to fight against the vicious thugs responsible for his death, as well as a nefarious top-level OCP executive orchestrating the chaos from above.

Unsurpassably thrilling, unexpectedly moving and unforgettably hilarious in equal measure, the future of law enforcement is back in a definitive Blu-ray™ presentation packed with hours of brand new bonus features and exclusive collectable packaging.

I wonder if they could get the Criterion commentary. That's really the only thing that they would have as an exclusive, I believe.

Have the two ever worked together before? I don't know anything about Arrow.

The only real instances I can think of Arrow/Criterion ever coming close to “working together” was when Criterion used Arrow’s scan of “Time Bandits” and when Arrow used Criterion’s older master for “The Naked City”. Nothing in terms of their Shout collaborations of “To Live and Die in LA” and “Candyman”.

I really expected this to be a Criterion release. It'll suck if that commentary isn't ported over. I mean, at this point, the number of Robocop releases is getting ridiculous. They need to get the commentary and the only two extras that were left off of the Blu-ray.

Teaser Trailer (1:29)
Director's Cut Footage: Production Footage, Including Scenes From The Director's Cut Feature" (11:05)

Pretty close to no chance. Criterion has only shared their commentaries a few times most notably they let MGM use their Raging Bull commentary in exchange for MGM licensing 5 films to them and they let Sony use their Taxi Driver commentary in exchange for ???.

I canít see a reason for me to buy this when the most recent has a 4K scan and looks great. At this point a UHD release is probably the only way I buy Robocop again.

I would only re-buy this if they could re-master the unrated footage to look as good as the rest of the film. The 2014 Blu remaster looked tremendous (aside from the grainy, added gore bits), was loaded with both old and new extra features, and only cost me eight bucks (plus a free ticket to the remake). Wish the specialty labels would stop re-issuing perfectly-good existing editions of movies and start giving us more new-to-Blu exclusives.

OOOOH SHEEEEEEIIIIT!!

Day 1 pre-order now that it's coming to the States too.

The old remastered BD is good, but I think they'll go a step further and get access to the negative.

That I would re-buy if they offered the genuine, theatrical mono mix and all of the existing DVD extras that never made it to Blu.

As much as I like commentaries I'm much happier with Arrow having this as the video quality is likely to be superior.

I’m wondering what aspect ratio Arrow will use. I love Robocop and is probably one of my most dipped movies on any format except laser disc. 99.9% sure I’ll be getting this.
