Believe it or not there are actually two sequels, The Bone Hunter and Axe Raiders. No-one saw those, either.

You need to check out some of the other trailers for le cinema de Robbie Moffat (or Rabid Muppet as he's far from affectionately known to those who've encountered him) via his Palm Tree outfit (they also do screenwriting courses!!!):

The one film of his that actually got a theatrical release, Got to Run, got the worst reviews ever recorded for a British film, with only the communist propaganda sheet Morning Star liking it, which implies that they're still desperately trying to find new ways to undermine democracy even after the Soviet Union collapsed.

It's entirely possible that enforced exposure to his work has made me much more tolerant of other filmmakers: if you can sit through The Winter Warrior, you can sit through almost anything and it'll look good by comparison.

Now, I have the "Who reads the papers?" clip from Yes, Prime Minister in my head.

Never walked out of a movie. I did turn off Survival of the Dead after 15-20 minutes not that long ago.

I think the only film I've ever not finished is The Party.

I watched The Party years ago but to be truthful, I much prefer Peter Sellers' earlier films from the 50's up to about the mid-60's - my personal favourite being I'm All Right Jack and Battle Of The Sexes.

I never really took to the Pink Panther films he made in the 1970's, although the first one with Robert Wagner and David Niven (1963) was good.

I'm not sure I like Peter Sellers, period, unless I just happen to have caught a bad sample (Shot in the Dark, Pink Panther, The Party). It's just endless "does stupid accent, falls over, breaks something". It's not clever.

I do enjoy Dr Strangelove, though. The president character is much more my style of humour than than Mandrake or Strangelove himself.

I can see how his style would be a turnoff for some folks but personally I enjoy it. Sellers performance in "Being There" might liken more to your style.

I’m with you. I’ve never enjoyed those movies where some hapless character goes about blindly causing chaos and mayhem wherever they go. This includes the Mr. Bean movies as well. I just don’t find that funny. I just think to myself, now, who’s going to clean that up?

The Pink Panther films are arguably his best known films, but I've never really warmed to them. It is the reason I prefer Sellers' earlier films, because although most of them are comedies, there is no clowning around like there is in The Party or Pink Panther. They're more 'serious' comedies, if I can put it like that.

I agree. I've NEVER liked Mr. Bean. In fact I've never cared for Johnny English either. I very much enjoy Rowan Atkinson in the Blackadder series he made for the BBC in the 1980's however.

I like the snide, cynical humour of Blackadder far more than the childish slapstick antics of Mr. Bean too, but I suppose the latter has a much wider appeal which is why he keeps doing that sort of thing I suppose.

I remember watching Blackadder Goes Forth when it first aired in 1989, which was right around the time we were learning about World War I in school. It's a brilliantly funny show, but also one of the most accurate depictions of what life was actually like in the trenches.

LOL says the person who owns The Nutty Professor. Comedy doesn't have to all be "clever" every second, as proven by Jerry Lewis, who acted much more idiotic than Sellers ever did.

Cherry-picking titles from people's collections in order to make a point is hitting below the belt IMO. There's a reason why I no longer post my collection on here.

I loved EVERYTHING by Rowan Atkinson until Mr. Bean. Still, it's not unusual for me to lose interest in a comic actor after 15 years and he had a nice run. I wonder if we will see a remake of Mr. Bean some day starring Steve Martin.

I own it because I wouldn't be able to sell it for enough to make it worth doing.

I love all the four series made, but I'd say my favourites would be Blackadder the Third and Blackadder Goes Forth. The script is brilliant, and there was a book published some years ago now which contains the complete script for all four series which I really enjoy reading from time to time.

I also liked a very early show he made on TV called Not The Nine O'Clock News. It only ran for a couple of years or so way back at the start of the 80's which was basically a compilation of satirical sketches based on what were current news stories at that time. However Blackadder for me remains his biggest hit.

Since this is the Twilight Time thread, I'll put in a plug for Peter Sellers in The World of Henry Orient, It's more of a supporting role (even though he plays the title character), but he's quite good in it without going over the top.

I could swear that Sellers is doing Stanley Kubrick's voice in Lolita after listening to a audio only interview of Kubrick on the 2001 Blu-ray
