The whole article is laughable

Take In to account the entire U.K. retail sector is at its worst state
In a decade , add in the fact it’s competing with the greatest showman etc

We have the busy Xmas months ahead which will counteract the hmv debacle and we all know amazon is the king now

The article failed to mention indie stores grew
Vinyl grew
Argos grey for games
And barely mentioned 4k success

games we are mid generational shift a drop was expected and games retail typically doesn’t lock in the big numbers until q3-4

Physical media is seasonal for the most part

We will be doing this same rigmarole in 10 years time when I’m popping a cart in my ps6 and everyone will be proclaiming how physical died a decade prior

Meanwhile I’ll be sat happy with my niche little cottage industry dedicated to collectors like a bigger sacd

I feel the word dead just means not mainstream to these writers not actually dead

If you are looking for an UHD TV or Projector, here are some picks for Best in 2019. Even a good Sony Projector for Wendell:

Laser projectors are starting to get exciting. Sure, thirty-five grand is a little steep but LG has a six grand ultra short throw that looks really interesting too.

Six grand isn't exactly in my price range either but laser projectors are definitely starting to feel like OLEDs did a few years ago. Out of reach but destined be comfortably within reach in fairly short order.

If my current Sony projector can withstand a few more years of cigar smoke I should be in very good shape come upgrade time.

Some very nice toys in that link, but who in the U.S. is selling the Pioneer LX800 4K disc player? It lists for $2,449, is built like a damn tank weighing a whopping 30.4 pounds, and is said, by some, to be the best 4K disc player in the world, but try finding one!

https://www.techradar.com/reviews/pi...blu-ray-player

Its little brother, the LX500 ($879 at Amazon), is easy enough to find, but where's this bad boy?

That’s mine. (Cheaper one). It’s a fantastic player though.

Well, to be fair to them, they aren’t the only one. We have members constantly crop dusting the thread with links and not actually contributing anything outside of the link. The sad part is most are guilty of latching onto a tag line and not reading the actual article

I'm even worse; I don't even read their actual posts, yet alone their attached articles. I just look for the emojis and the gifs.

I jest. Of course I read everything with ravenous interest, often quoting their own articles in my replies.

Next one will most likely be a JVC, the BenQ came up short.

Kris Deering is a tech savvy person (IIRC, engineering degree in acoustics) and does Blu-ray player and projector reviews for Sound & Vision magazine. He is a member of Blu-ray.com

Another good source for reviews is Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity (here). At one time I believe Kris Deering, Don Munsil and Stacey Spears all were involved with Secrets. There are a couple of tech writers at Widescreen Review that I trust.

Several of these people (including yours truly) are members of Linkedin and have info on their background there.

Added: Almost forgot about Vincent Teoh, he does a lot of reviews via YouTube.

Yeah, I watch a bit of Vincent on YouTube, but appreciate all of the info Wendell If the attic was remodeled it would make things a bit easier. As I’d have a dedicated space to get things set up. I’m going to do my best to get the flooring sound proofed or insulated/installed to where no one can hear me when I’m up there. It will be interesting if any of this comes to bear though. At this point I feel like selling off most of my collectibles and calling it a day

My latest 3D order from Amazon.uk, Dumbo 2019 and Shazam! arrived just 6 days after shipping! The U.K. has been my single biggest source for 3D blu-rays for some time now. I am very pleased.

Because of limited funds I was a DIY most of my life and spent many hours refurbing and/or building. Because of my age that most likely is behind me now . I do have the advantage of having a younger brother to give pointers, some of his work here, here and here.

Do you have construction plans for your attic space? If not, I would recommend drawing some up or have someone do it for you. Do you HAVC for that space? If so, zoned or separate units. Stubbed or full plumbing? If you already have HAVC and plumbing then I would roll the sleeves, close my eyes and dive in .

There is skilled labor that will sometimes be at Lowe's or Home Depot in early mornings looking for short term work. Check around the builders section.

LOL, I’ll definitely be hiring someone to do our work for us. What I’d love to do is open it up all away across the house, work around the a/c unit/vents and maybe add a bathroom up there. I’ve also thought about making the fire places functional again, but I think my wife wants to get rid of the one in our room.

All this being said, we need to find out how much leveling the foundation is going to be. From there we will have the kitchen, and most likely the master bathroom remodeled. So my project is too far down the road until her consulting business takes off or her mom pitches in. But we have some other things that need sorting before all of this happens.

Do you own San Andreas 3D? I skipped that one first time out, tempted to pick it up.

Yes, it's was a fun film well suited to the 3D format.

Even though I've gone mostly digital for films(especially newer oner) except my favorite 4K catalog titles, I just started a vinyl collection as I have a player arriving next week that I got with points from work.

I do have 3 4K pre-orders for the rest of the year - The Shining, Gremlins and Once upon a Time in Hollywood . Also recently picked up Do the Right Thing Criterion, but I do not see myself getting another physical copy this year. My only other pickups this year were Karate Kid 4k, The Young girls of Rochefort (Criterion) and Room with a View (Criterion, for my wife) and Audition (Arrow)

As I have said before, I am happy to see people make even a few physical media purchases. It is much better than none at all.

Vinyl, though? Too delicate and too much upkeep for me, but whatever makes you happy. I still have a turntable connected to my home theater, but it almost never gets used.

I'm glad that the UV closure does not appear to have hurt you any. It did cause several weeks of anxiety for many people, but I am not hearing that many horror stories now that it is over and done.

It is funny you bring up vinyl. I had a record player, but it got jacked up while we were packing. I’ve thought about getting one of those portable all in one players when my son was getting into cassette tapes because of Starlord. Are you buying new or going to thrift stores flyry? I saw some vinyl at game shop of all places when we went to one after seeing the new Spider-Man movie.

I’m wondering what he’d think listening to music that way. Of course I have to get him into loving music again. I had him help his mom pick up the new Target Endgame exclusive for me yesterday. I’m about to order the Shazam digibook from Australia and considering picking up that Ray Harryhausen Sinbad set that was released a few years back. My only fear there is someone will release them remastered here in the states once I do.
