I’d suggest something like the Jungle Book and Lion King are part of a Disney Live Action remake franchise?! Stretching it I know! But they shouldn’t be included. Neither should trash like the Conan Barbarian and Ben-Hur and Pompeii. As I say, it’s probably more about target audience and quality than anything else. Can you help?

The biggest inconsistency with my suggestion is possibly the Hollywood part. TT3D, Pina, Cave I’d Forgotten Dreams and Goodbye to Language aren’t Hollywood productions? If we get rid of the Hollywood part what then gets added?
Ah, I see...not sure that this exercise would shed light on any trends given there are so few qualifying movies to choose from in any given year....remember, the smaller the sample size, the less reliable the conclusion. As I recall it appeared that your original post was created to imply that there were fewer and fewer 3D standalone movies. I showed that to be incorrect as of 2019. But with your new parameters it really would be a tiny sample size making it practically useless in determining a trend.

Btw, I don’t agree that a remake of a cartoon into live action/cgi is in and of itself a “franchise” when it is a single movie like lion king or dumbo or Aladdin ...it’s not “stretching it”—it’s plain incorrect interpretation of the term “franchise”.

In any event, good luck in your search but I don’t see the purpose.

The original post (in this thread) was summarising what some people were saying in response to a “look, there’s loads of 3D movies” comment. We see it quite often in these forums where people say “and people think 3D is dead. Ha ha ha.”. It’s not about there being a decline, it’s about demonstrating that there isn’t an increase in non-franchise/non-animation.

Basically the 3D movies being released are all the same. We’re not going to get ‘new’ people watching 3D if the movies are all the same. Imagine a yes/no survey question for cinema-goers that is “have you watched one or more 3D films this year”. Now ask yourself whether you think that number is going up or down and what’s required to increase that number. That is pulse of 3D movies.

Actually the top grossing movies are pretty much all released theatrically in 3D! And when the movies are making over $1BILLION each, I’d say pretty much anyone who likes movies would have seen them leaving very few “new” people to draw.

Whether a movie is a franchise/animated or not is simply an arbitrary qualification that you have added. The reality is that if everyone on earth went to see a franchise or animated movie in 3D, according to your logic it would still not be a good indicator of 3D simply because it was part of a franchise or animated.

Poor logic in my humble opinion but to each their own!

The bold ones I had a chance to see in 3D theaters. The Marvel films and Alita were the highlights so far for 3D films for me.

I imagine Star Wars 9, Rise of Skywalker 3D will have medium to strong 3D as in Force Awakens, also from JJ Abrams.

I will be surprised if Terminator Dark Fate is in 3D.

Magic Arch is stereoscopic 3D even though 3D isn't listed on the poster

Those lower budget 3D animated CGI films look mildly interesting, but if they offer strong 3D along the lines of Open Season 3D, then I'd be interested in seeing them. Thanks.

Spies In Disguise (Sept. 13th)
Abominable (Sept. 27th)

Spies in Disguise from Blue Sky Studios, those films from them usually are medium to high medium layers of 3D from what I've seen in the past, and for this new film's 3D trailer.

New Release date is December 25, 2019 for Spies in Disguise 3D.

Default Zombieland 2 in 3D?

Why does this site have them listed with other 3D titles for 2019? The trailers have no mention of 3D.

I don't know why that site has them listed in 3D but there is no chance that this movie will be available in 3D.

According to this German website: https://horrorfilme-portal.de/zombieland-2/ the producer of Zombieland 2 said that there will be a 3D Version.

I can't read German but I'm guessing that was from a few years ago. They probably thought of doing it in 3D but changed their minds.

Some did, and they loved the 3D. Loads of pop-outs and depth.

Yes, I saw Abominable and the 3D was great. More well done pop-outs than I've seen in any 3D movie in a while. I also wasn't excited about the movie itself, but I'm a 3D movie junkie, so I went anyway. To my surprise, I really liked the movie.

It isn’t, no. That was a presumption.

I’m pretty sure Terminator will not be in 3D. Add Maleficent on October 18th, Jumanji on December 13th (also the dance documentary Cunningham on that day, but I imagine it will never get beyond a limited release), and Spies in Disguise in December 25th and I believe that’s the rest of US 3D for the year.

Sorry about that. I copy/pasted from the page 1 post of this thread, but I agree, Terminator Dark Fate won't be in 3D sadly.

So that edit to page 1 would be:

October: 3D
Gemini Man (Oct. 4th)
The Addams Family (Oct. 18th)
Maleficent 2 3D (Oct. 18th)

November: 3D
Frozen 2 (Nov. 22nd)

December 2019: 3D
Jumanji on December 13th
December: Star Wars IX (Dec. 20th)
Spies in Disguise in December 25th
