I don't know what DVD set I have, but the blu-ray bests it. It has processing and ringing, but it's nothing like the snowstorm of noise and dull colors and fuzziness on the DVDs.

I would stick with that TBH, it has all the same extras too.
The snowstorm of noise mentioned above must be the first DVD set that was atrocious.

Remastered DVD > BD > Original DVD IMO

Thx. I'll stick with that. The DVD set I have is nothing like a snowstorm of noise and dull colours.

I have an LG oled tv and the FT blu is stuttery. I have no motion stuff switched on. I tried the remastered dvd and that is fine. What seems odd is the blu ray is 1080p? Surely as Brit tv it should be 1080i at 50hz?

TVs will convert the 1080i to 1080p but if you are getting stuttering your TV maybe converting it to 1080p/60 rather than 1080p/50.

Thanks I was probably wrong as it’s playing it correctly, must be faulty as some weird motion on disk 1. Example off the top of my head is near the beginning of the builders where basil is talking to Manuel about cleaning the windows.

Will send it back.

I don't know the technical term for it is, but can anything be done about the colour smearing on lights which I imagine is part of the original master tapes? I only own the DVDs so I have no idea if anything has been done in the last 17 years in terms of remastering etc.

It is region free, but encoded at 1080/50i. Your player and TV will need to be able to output and display 1080/50p in order to view it. Or have a multi-region modded player that can convert it to 1080/60p. (Assuming you live in the US)

The special features are 576/25i, which the player would then to try to output at 1080/50p as well.

Region free but it's 50i content which stops many US consumers viewing.

It'd be a 'Day 1' pre-order for me if it does.

Here's hoping.

Went with the '09 remastered DVDs for this set. One of my favorite series and I haven't owned it until now shockingly!

It cant suffer from PAL speedup as it was originally recorded as 50Hz interlaced PAL and is the same on the DVD and blu ray

..thanks for your reply..in that case since there is no Pal speed-up issue that would effect original running times and after having read some of the pages on this thread , i think i will purchase the 2009 dvd set which is presently selling for £9.72 from amazon uk..

Maybe it would help if you specified your location. If you are in UK/Europe then you wont have any issues with this. It is 50Hz content designed to be played back at 50Hz. All UK editions of the dvd and blu ray are at 50Hz.
