I replaced it with the LG and had no problems with freezing discs. I did have an issue with the LG model. I was watching Pitch Black and randomly thru the movie the video would go dark,the audio still playing.Then it started happening on other 4k discs. I changed the HDMI cable and the issue went away. So maybe you could give that a try. Nothing to lose.

These blus look like the individual releases not the Ultimate Collection. Aside from the disk art they seem like the same disk. Is that right?

I had an LG player that refused to play certain discs, I’ve had my Sony player for a few weeks now and it’s been fine apart from freezing once during Flash Gordon and then during Rear Window.

They have the old BBFC logo on the discs so they’re old discs. I’m not sure if they’re from a set or individual releases, sorry.

I paid £17 for the Masterpiece collection. A Market Place seller had it available and I didn't realise it wasn't Amazon. As I was about to order my internet went down and when my internet finally came back to life it was no longer available. Decided to email Amazon and explain what happened, just on the off chance it may come back down and they explained that was actually a third party seller but they kindly matched the price for me and delivered it at £17. It was £29.99 at that time so I was well impressed with Amazon on that one.

Rear Window

The approach on this UHD is a naked one. Use the enhanced UHD varient to deliver as close to an accurate home presentation possible.

Step one being don't let the image be throttled by video compression. I think hitting 112mbs regularly speaks for it self.

Step two don't put a monkey in the grading suite that hasn't got a bloody clue about Hitchcock. I can say with certainty that the person who done this, or assisted in it knows an unhealthy amount about Hitchcock. But oh wait bro! Fake HDR!! That MaxFALL is 29... (insert Tom Hardys Charlie Bronson saying shut up with the big C word here). Film doesn't exist to serve HDR, HDR exists to serve film. And it serves Rear Window very well.

Pop? Who needs pop when you got Hitchcock. This is tasteful accentuation of Burk and Hitchcocks shots. It's highlight details if you will. Then, when it effectively falls back to SDR 4K. It has that mountain of bit rate bigger than the one in Paramounts logo to fall back on.

It all just adds up to one very effective presentation. Never have I found Rear Window more gripping, sucking you in at home like never before. It's fresh but still a familiar classic.

Buy with confidence.

That’s brilliant, if only I could be so lucky I’ve just put an offer in for £15 on eBay for the set so hopefully it gets accepted.

I was looking at that player but I think it was £100 more than the UBP700 so I went with that. My TV doesn’t support DV so that isn’t a factor for me at the moment, the UBP700 supports it though so when I do upgrade I’m covered.

Like I and others have been saying, the way that blurb is phrased is confusing, and it sounds like they're trying to word their way around something. Or it's just not very well researched.

The "uncut" version may have gotten out to some theaters in the world (most likely Germany), but I'm still under the impression that the "official" version in 1960 was most likely the one we're all familiar with.

I'm talking about when you play the disc and a message that comes up. Either make that message crystal clear or don't include one at all. Who does the QC with this damn discs?

I was looking at that player but I think it was £100 more than the UBP700 so I went with that. My TV doesn’t support DV so that isn’t a factor for me at the moment, the UBP700 supports it though so when I do upgrade I’m covered.

In Europe it's much more expensive (in the US you can get it for $200), so the best buy if you want DV would be the new Panasonic 424 or even LG UBK90 (it also has HDR10+ but no HDR optimizer like the 420)

Unsure of whether to bite the bullet on this or just pick up Psycho and wait for the other individual releases down the line. I know it’s a gamble, but I could easily see these popping up as Zavvi exclusive steels/Best Buy exclusive steels or what have you in a few months to a year. I really hate the disc sleeves.

Maybe Universal will see the error of their ways when the book packaging doesn't sell well in the US. But the digi pack boxset does in other markets.

US Universal HE rep: So across the pond the Hitchcock set will have plastic hubs to hold the discs. It’s a little more expensive, so we went with cardboard sleeves for our set. It saves us money, and who cares if it scratches discs? These losers will buy the set anyway. **** ‘em, amirite? Hahahaha...

I guarantee that if this set underperforms in the US, the Universal execs will not assume it’s because of the packaging. They will simply assume there’s no market demand.
