Very true! Guess I will just go for that release since this one is long gone and I'm not going to pay beyond full MSRP for it, especially when a new blu is being released.

Thanks for reminding me And thank you again drownsoda for letting us know anyway -- at least we tried!

Mine was canceled too but I wanted to chime in and thank Drownsoda for letting us know about it. 🙂 I’ll get the studio canal release now.

Doesn't appear to be. Criterion states it's on Back-order.

All of the Jarmusch titles are licensed directly from him. He really likes the folks at Criterion, so I doubt that he'd fail to renew his deals with them.

No, Criterion has stated that there won't be any going out of print anytime soon.

So about a week ago I asked reddit and this site if Criterion would ever release La Strada and Nights of Cabiria on a standalone disc.
Reddit said No
This site said Yes
I eventually asked Criterion themselves

Email:
[Show spoiler]Hello,
I have been following Criterion for a while now looking at how they release they're films and how they stay successful.

I have noticed that you have had several director box sets lately. Is this a way for the company to not sell individual packages for certain movies and just release them in bulk?

For example, if someone wants a blu ray copy of La Strada by Fellini, or Happy Together by Wong Kar-Wai, they have to buy the box sets and there is no chance for them being available on a separate disc.

When the company released they're Bergman Box set, they did release some of his films afterwards (Shame, for example).

Would you know if this is they're direction now? Box sets?

Thank You for your input and I look forward to your response.

Their response:
[Show spoiler]Thank you for writing!

While we do release box sets for select filmmakers (or collections like GODZILLA and BRUCE LEE) once to twice a year, individual titles are still released multiple times each month and still make up the bulk of our Collection: https://www.criterion.com/shop/brows...r=new-releases

There are no plans to release box sets only, though, yes, occasionally, for curation purposes and due to licensing, some titles will only be available as part of a set. There are also other instances, when titles that were previously only part of a set (https://www.criterion.com/films/28412-touki-bouki or https://www.criterion.com/films/561-the-ascent are 2 recent examples) will later be released for individual purchase, often along with additional supplements and featuring the latest restoration.

In short, we'll continue releasing box sets because they allow fans to purchase many titles at a fraction of the price and learn about the full scope of a select filmmaker, star, or genre, but they will continue to only be a portion of our releases.

Hope this answers your question!

Best,
Kseniya

Perhaps I asked the question weirdly, but nonetheless, I'd thought I'd share it with you guys.

This week I’ve been working my through the 3 Colors Trilogy. Started with Red and was throughly impressed, such a cerebral film. But, wow. Threw in Blue next, and was completely arrested the entire duration. No question, Blue was one of the finest films I’ve literally ever seen. Right after it was finished I was reeling so much I couldn’t even wind down for the night. You know those experiences you have with a film that just takes the craft to an entire new dimension for you? I was shared that experience with Blue.

I have to see this movie. In France, the trilogy is available on Netflix. How ironic...

Nah. It's placed where there's extra real estate. Take Days of Heaven, for example.

The bottom right quadrant is just a bunch of wheat. One can argue that that still disrupts a carefully composed cover, but if I get a hankering to look at it in all its glory, I can just slide the wrap out of the case and look at it by itself.

Curious why you chose to watch them in that order? It's generally recommended to watch in their order of release, which also coincides with their order on the French flag: Blue, White, then Red. Indeed, Red has elements that tie together the other films and should definitely be watched last. Regardless, they are masterpieces and glad you enjoyed them.
