This morning we were able to access a bunch of prints, now loaded for the trip! I got the nitrate materials out of the storage as well and am excited to get the scans done this week. We're scanning 4k on all the nitrates. I'm hoping to leave at some point tomorrow- likely the morning. Dave, Becky and Becca have been doing a great job helping get all the stuff out the door. We just managed to get *all* the pre-orders done and almost everything shipped last week and into this one.

So, now that those are all out: two special sets with things that have been waiting here to get scans!

From the Thunderbean side of things: Funny Bunnies- features classic cartoons that have rabbits in them- all new scans from 35mm and 16mm prints, including old Technicolor prints including a few real surprises!

And, from Snappy Video: The Snappy Video Party Disc, volume 2, featuring 'Paris, ohh-La-La (1963) another fun collection of oddball ‘party’ films that used to make the rounds in film collector circles and the feature -length ‘Paris Ohh-La-La (1963)’ from a rare 35mm print.

Both are available at the Thunderbean shop as of now (thunderbeanshop.com) but you folks know that already! Thanks to all of you that support these things. You're really making each one of these happen- and even though it's a long trip, I'm coming back with more scans than I've ever done in a few days!

Don't worry, WaverBoy! They will keep coming. As I'm packing and getting ready to go on the trip today, I'm most excited about seeing everything going out- and seeing the priorities shift to the next projects that are also getting things scanned right now... and it's happening in such a short period of time with all the help from the cartoon fans and our little staff.

So, the 1937 feature is shipping now correct (but not fully shipped)? I'm looking forward to it.

Could the upgrade be included on another Van Beuren disc or a second printing if you decide to proceed as is? If yes, I'd say proceed.

Please include the 35mm soundtrack upgrade; that’s what I love about Thunderbean is their willingness to get everything as right as possible, and since the opportunity is there now, better now than possibly never, eh?

Speaking as one of many who don’t want to buy a set twice just to have an inferior copy in my hands sooner, I’d say please don’t do that.

I don't think it would be "inferior".

It would be inferior by definition to a version with an upgraded soundtrack.

Van Beuren or not, having the shorts sound their best would be preferred if the opportunity is presented. Still believe it's a crime WB skimped out on using better soundtracks for some of the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies shorts. "I Love to Singa" and "Mouse-Merized Cat" are examples of this, moreso "Singa".

Van Beuren's soundtracks were by Gene Rodemich, who was a great "sweet band" bandleader in his day. I have lots of his 78s on Brunswick and they're great. He did some of the best cartoon music scores, and his Chaplin scores are classics. I vote for upgraded soundtracks.

The later films were scored by Winston Sharples and those scores are very good too.

If we're talking about a single cartoon's soundtrack, I doubt that would tank the whole set, quality wise. That's hyperbolic

You should do Wonder girl and Sleeper girl too. Those have wonky color as well.

Quick report from the field:

Got back yesterday afternoon after driving 9 hours to scan stuff and 9 hours back. That's honestly too much driving that fast. Had a 12 hour scanning session with a break for dinner. Scanned more things in one day than we ever had, ever- in fact more stuff in one day than I've done in a month.Maybe two! They look amazing. Scanning things on a brand new scanner. This is the new Cintel 2 / Black Magic scanner. I'm completely impressed. Just ran a test in bringing some footage into restoration and output- and the stuff looks easily as good as the Laser Graphics output and, on this old film, does something magical with how the light source doesn't show any of the surface wear on negs and prints. Way better than I've ever seen with no restoration or cleanup. I'm considering redoing a few more of the Flips I have the nitrate still here on (that are already cleaned up) since this 4k scanner did such an amazing job. There are still features I've left there to scan that are going to be done next week.

I am very excited for the Rainbow Parade set, but based on your post upthread about waiting for elements before re-pressing certain discs, if I were you, even if I did release it first, I wouldn’t be at ease about the set until after I was able to access the LOC materials. But maybe I’m just projecting!
