I had some time to think on that particular problem while driving those many hours. I'm going to have to do it since it's the only piece of material I know of for the set that is better than what I have. So many people have worked so hard on this set for many years, so it would be a shame to not include it. It looks like I can combine the costs for this and the two other things I need right now, so maybe it will all work out ok...

This is the new Cintel 2 / Black Magic scanner. I'm completely impressed. Just ran a test in bringing some footage into restoration and output- and the stuff looks easily as good as the Laser Graphics output and, on this old film, does something magical with how the light source doesn't show any of the surface wear on negs and prints. Way better than I've ever seen with no restoration or cleanup. I'm considering redoing a few more of the Flips I have the nitrate still here on (that are already cleaned up) since this 4k scanner did such an amazing job. There are still features I've left there to scan that are going to be done next week.
GREAT news, and YES, by all means re-scan the Flips if it means increased quality—the opportunity is there now, the stars are in alignment, better go for it!

Stunning! Hoping that in the future the special sets these shorts are on will be offered up again.

Since we've got these scanned, we'll put some of them back up for those that missed. Thanks to all for supporting these things!

Bigshot--- These are from IB Technicolor Garage scans and Top Shelf Scans.

Cool! I haven't gotten those yet. Something to look forward to!

I have a suggestion for a collection- Animation Behind The iron Curtain. I got a huge lot of Russian DVDs on eBay and there's a lot of jaw dropping stuff on them. There's one in particular that I'd like a better copy of... The Shareholder 1963.

I wish I could get prints of that stuff. There was a company called films by Jove that had licensed them, but as many things go in Russia, something happened with the rights and they got all sucked back in-- and it's questionable as to whether they'll let the propaganda stuff back out or anything else for that matter.

I got that four disc Propaganda set that By Jove put out. But The Shareholder is cropped from widescreen to TV aspect. I have the Masterpieces discs too. But it looks like some of the prints on these Russian kiddie DVDs are better than the ones By Jove was given. And I can play them in their native frame rate. Some of the By Jove conversions were funky.

Given this august group of animation fans, maybe you can identify a short for this noob:

Back in high school (47 years ago), my history teacher showed us an animated short that visualized history as a very tall building. The building reflected history as the camera panned up the building. The only distinguishing feature that I really remember is that all the windows went dark at one point, signifying the dark ages. As the ascent continued, the camera paused, and a candle was lit in a window while the occupant cried, "I've discovered the zero!". When someone else asked, "What?", he replied, "Nothing," blew out the candle, and the ascent continued.

Can anyone identify this animated short?

Saul Bass "Why Man Creates"

This would be a good addition to an Animation Education disk.

Always had been one of my favorites since I worked at the University of Michigan film and video library. That was back from 1987 though 1994. It would be cool to do a special set of just educational animated shorts that can’t be released otherwise

I'm so excited about these next handful of weeks. Working the last few nights on organizing the Puppetoons project to send all the work files. Then, back to Rainbow Parades again!

Steve, Have you ever considered doing a set on the John Sutherland industrial films from the cold war? I'm helping a friend whose working on a fan-documentary on Bill Scott (which is looking fantastic by the way) and we delved into researching the studio. I'd love to see those on Blu-Ray restored and remastered
