Having a really good day...

Combined and did final packing on 'the big' batch of stuff that's going out this week. Dave is picking them up to send in a bit...

Playing around with a 1956 mag 6 track recording is really, really fun. Just saying.

Flips are really coming together! Working on 'Circus' again a little today, getting the little clip shown on Cartoon Research today cleaned up and inserted into the edit.

Worked on my personal 'mess ups' pile a bit and that is getting smaller. Only 3 things left in it after today! This has been the hardest stuff to resolve...

May sneak some things here in the next day.

Really debating an additional feature or two.. two scope ones, actually...

So when is the guy who started the tree town animation studio/indie dvd distrubutor going to show up to give me work and a bunch of goodies (included o.MCMXL.f) to give me work on a VB short of a previously silent character in cleanup?

I'm not familiar with all the Thunderbean releases...was there ever one that centered on "Mel-O-Toons"?

From Steve's post today. The Comic-Colors are going to look SO GOOD. I know Jack Frost isn't done yet, but damn at the clarity.



Once it is done, there won't be any going back to the old Image DVD's.

I'm super looking forward to playing around with the color layers on the Comi-colors. Have just started but haven't brought into resolve yet to start doing rea combinations- it will be much closer to the bottom image above..

Doing concept drawings today of a classic character and really enjoying it!

We've put up 1955 animated feature at the Thunderbean shop for a limited time as special set. 35mm Technicolor and Scope and in beautiful condition.. Have a few cool extras we're scanning for it as well. Looked at the print last night; we really need a scan on this one. Definitely one of the last of these we'll be doing on features- and lots of the special sets will be coming down next week.

Bunches of the special discs have gone out today and more in the coming few days. Hope to have all of this huge batch sent by Monday if possible...

Sounds good.

You mentioned before that many of the Comic-Colors don't exist as negs anymore, only as 35mm prints. Working with these copies must be great when its possible.

Aesops Fables and Tom & Jerry were up for preorder a long time ago, right? I think I've already paid for those.

Natwick's BG layouts in Jack Frost are gorgeous.

It's not many. Almost all exist in separations (black and white). Several do not- but just a few.

Yes- that's right. Sorry to not point that out! The Cinecolor shorts were much harder to track down since there are no 'master' materials on many of them. Took forever-so much so that not working on that seems impossible at this point! The ones in 35mm were, for the most part, in excellent shape. On the 16mm ones, sometimes the final versions for the Blu-rays combine four prints. We scanned five prints on 'The Hunting Season'... I think that has the most material scanned. Sometimes we were lucky and found a really, really good print after scanning several not-so-good ones. Parrotville Old Folks is one print, and the track from Official Films 35mm master (sounds great). Scotty Finds a Home is four prints combined, plus the sound from a 16mm Black and white print (all the 16mm are from either 35mm sound or 16mm b/w prints). These old prints are just hard to find in excellent shape. I was happy we has as many as we did in 35mm. There are more 35mm prints at archives than anywhere else- but we did manage to win one on Ebay years back that is still the only print that has shown up on the title in 35mm.

For the Technicolor ones, we're using the 'master' prints held at UCLA. All are 35mm IB Technicolor, and all the Blackhawk prints used these materials as did the Kodachrome prints made in the 40s and 50s. There are some separations but none complete.

Was smiling looking at the first half of Rainbow Parades. It's off to replication again. I'm super happy to have had the chance to make it as good as I think I can. I'm excited to get the Technicolor ones done- as is Paramount Cartoons! I'm sending one of his favorites for him to do the digital cleanup work on.

Yes. After a little more than four years in nearly continuous progress, we’re done and it’s off in replication. If the stock comes back next week it will go up for sale right away on Amazon and pre-orders will go out. Flip the frog is getting all sorts of attention right now. May see if I can get to LA to do a few of the bonus things. Need to run to New York again to do some more scans for Aesop’s and Stop motion marvels. Not too busy or anything. There’s another project that I just got another film for that I can’t talk about. I’m really excited because a lot of what we’re getting hasn’t been seen since original release. It’s so strange and cool to see nearly lost cartoons and get to work with them... and they’re really good too!

Things that are being worked on nearly daily right now are:

Tom and Jerry
Stop Motion Marvels (Blu-ray)
Aesops Fables

And, when the next scans happen, Vintage Education 2 will be done. Maybe early July.

Mid Century Modern 3 is actually moving along pretty well too but morre needs to get scanned.

Tom and Jerry and Flip are big concentrations this weekend at the moment...
