Saw this thread bumped and thought for a second there might finally be a Blu announcement.

And totally agree on Shea. Very very underrated performance and too often forgotten in any best Lex conversation.

With it being WBs' 100th anniversary year, and shows like Babylon 5 getting a (long overdue) blu-ray release, I'm still hopeful we may get a Lois & Clark (and The West Wing) blu-ray set this year. Especially considering the HD masters already exist and have been streaming for a while now....

Sorry, no blu-ray announcement yet! I'm surprised, seeing how we've had Wonder Woman, Flash etc.

The reason I'm posting is I came across this podcast with Deborah Joy Levine https://www.spreaker.com/episode/5-d...vine--16377040. I'm probably the last person to the party with this but I didn't realise that having developed the show, she left after season one due to creative differences. It was an interesting listen about how the show began and her original plan for a five year arc.

Yup. Season 1 was the only one I really liked.

Re-watching it now. I remember liking it the best because Lex Luthor was the main villain and John Shea was so good in it too. If memory serves, season 2 suffered in his absence and it's only the romantic story that carries the season for me ironically, given WB wanted a more action orientated show. I think Deborah Joy Levine was right on the money with this TV show.

It’s restored on Max. I love the actors to the moon and back, and this show had some amazing episodes that could rival Smallville but the show was also just corny as all get out a lot of the time. I think my favorite season was 3. Finally Lois knows and gets a better haircut.

The first season was, and still is my favourite. John O'Shea's Lex Luthor was great, Tracy Scoggins' Cat Grant was a terrific foil for Lois, and we had the good Jimmy Olsen. I watched, and enjoyed (to a lesser degree) the subsequent seasons but really the show never fully recovered from those early cast changes. Writing out John O'Shea in particular was insane.

I actually forgot about Cat and the old Jimmy. I preferred the second Jimmy.. I always wish they would do a modern version of this show, and yes I suppose it’s supposed to be that new show.

I liked the first Jimmy Olsen more than the second. The replacement was fine.

Just wanted to make a record here and say that I have the HD remasters from HBOMAX and they're so gorgeous and definitely my preferred way to watch (over DVD). Properly mastered from the film and very detailed.

Yes, the special effects shots stick out a bit (due to those shots being up-converted from standard-definition, so you know something is going to happen in that shot, like Superman flying in or out, an explosion, etc.).
But it's fine.

Comparing the DVD frame with the HD remaster, at first I noticed the HD was missing slivers of picture, sometimes slightly zoomed in, but then I noticed a lot of shots where there was actually more picture and it was slightly zoomed out. It's simply very slightly reframed here and there. It's gorgeous.

I think I've said 'gorgeous' enough.

I'm thrilled to be able to experience this series for the first time in this format. I just think this HD remastered picture makes it so much more enjoyable compared to DVD. Just viewing bits here and there (and listening to that podcast interview of the series-creator) has me really excited to see this series.

I remember the night the show premiered. I was just a little kid. I didn't watch it, but would see the commercials and just remember it premiering, thinking I'd like to watch it all someday as I'll only watch it if I could see every moment in order (back then was difficult to keep up with things before internet).

Default LOIS & CLARK: THE NEW ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN - DVD vs HBOMAX HD

DVD vs HD Comparison pics

Click on the HD pics for enlargement and to see its true beauty. Looks better in motion.

The DVD picture peaks at that size, despite it looking more detailed than HD at smaller size-ratio.

While the DVD does have a nice gritty detailed look, it's regulated to that small size before it starts to look bad (as a digital source).

Yes, the DVD does beat the HD for the special effects shots that are upconverted-for-HD (Superman flying shots).

But the HD beats the DVD for all non-special effect pure-film shots (in my opinion).

Warner are indeed working on a Blu-ray set, In Search of Physical Media revealed this on one of his YT videos.

No release date as yet.

I'd be excited, but the source is giving me pause. I guess a broken clocks' still right twice a day though, right?

I've been itching to revisit the series for the first time since it originally aired, keeping an eye on the iTunes version for a sale. However, with this news I can easily wait awhile to see if anything comes of it.
