Can anyone who has received specifically the US set comment on the quality of the outer slip box? Just wondering how this thing will hold up in the post due to past disappointments with box sets arriving damaged.

I am guessing it is a thin cardboard and the UK gets the thick cardboard. https://ultrahd.highdefdigest.com/97...picture4k.html it is up.

Yes, going by this German review, Khan has burned-in subs for sure going by the "Nobody's perfect, Saavik." photo (in regard to the yellowish BD, the comparison is with the very old BD - just in case anyone wonders).

The DNR sauce for Spock, Mr. Bolty.

TrekCore has some other shots that starkly demonstrate how bad the DNR was with the 09 transfers and how at times thicker makeup on the actors was made to look far worse and unaturally pasty and waxy.

I still remember people claiming back in 2009 defending the BDs...that the wax look on the actors was simply from the heavy make-up used. lol

Me too and I tried to explain it to them that even factoring in some heavier theatrical make-up that they should not appear that waxy and they only did because of the DNR but nope the rebukes were how would you know and the daft rationalization that "the newest thing is automagically superior no matter what" was their mantra.

Do we know if these are MEL or FEL? If someone asked already I must have missed it.

Good question, since "makeup" was one of the excuses I heard for the atrocious 2009 BDs.

Talked with Amazon customer service just now, they insisted I’d receive the item on release date, despite my order still saying “Order Received” and the regular BD’s having shipped today.

Assuming I won’t get these on Tuesday from Amazon…

Agreed kind of reminds me of the 1st Blu-Ray Disc Transfers of The Star Wars Original Trilogy and The Indiana Jones films where all the faces looked liked they where out in the sun too much with the colors being a tad over saturated. Thank goodness the 4K UHD Remasters to some degree resolved those issues.

What doesn't get talked about as much because the DNR is so bad (along with clipping and EE), is how crappy the color was on the BDs. Just looking at some more BD pics.

Indeed the colors did seem a bit on the 2009 Blu-Ray Discs of Star Trek 1-4 as well as 5-10 a bit over saturated. It's liked the faces looked like they where out in the sun too long. Not as bad as the Blu-Rays for The OT of Star Wars and The Indiana Jones films where but still.

Something to do with the DNR processing - it always seems to make fleshtones a lot redder/more sunburned looking and exaggerates makeups.

I do think the 2009s got the brightness correct - the remasters look "overlit". I'm hoping true HDR in action reduces that.
