I watched the first two Fear Streets and didn't bother with the third. Bad is putting it mildly.

I daresay you are missing out...the third one was the best, especially what happens half-way through. I wasn't disappointed that I finished them out.

Do you think the fact that Scream was shot anamorphic instead of flat is a good thing for its 4K release?

Yeah, I think the consensus is that 94 is the weak part of the trilogy so I'm willing to give the other two a chance.
But it'd break my heart to see Scream turn into that.

One has nothing to do with the other. Unless you're another one of those kooks who doesn't like anamorphic, in which case you're shit out of luck with Scream

For the most part I liked it. I basically said in my write up that it feels like what 4 wanted to be.
What’s funny is when scream 4 came out people mostly said it feels like what S3 wanted to be

Now a lot of people will be saying about S5 it feels like what S4 wanted to be lol

Just watched the Blu of Scream for the first time in over four years (I keep track of these things), as the next movie in the "chronological viewing" of my physical media library... and oof, it's bad. Not the movie; that's a stone cold classic... but this is easily one of the worst-looking Blu's I own, alongside Reservoir Dogs. Genuinely looks like a DVD. In fact, it's such a DVD-esque edge-enhanced mess, I made sure to spin it on my old Oppo BDP-83. I keep that older player hooked up 'n' hot specifically for DVDs and movies like this, 'cuz I can roll off Detail Enhancement and Edge Enhancement in a way I can't on the Oppo 203. Looking forward to seeing what the new UHD looks like, and hope this great flick resembles film again.

It's had a bad run on physical media.
Some films just can't catch a break.
I suspect this will be like watching the film for the first time !

You are almost spot on with your DVD comparison. I say "almost" because on both of my setups, I have DVDs that actually look better than the Blu-ray of Scream. When people complain about how awful a Blu-ray looks, I usually just chuckle because it looks okay to me. (I'm not picky.) This is one of the few I pretty much agree with, although I wouldn't say it's "unwatchable". The 4K and new Blu-ray should look better by default.

Chronological viewing or not, Steel, why would you do that to yourself when the remaster is within our grasp!?

See? This is why I chuckle whenever people do their IJWTM schtick (not necessarily you, but if the shoe fits...), as there is always something somewhere that will offend even their sensibilities. The extant Scream Blu-ray is utterly wretched and has been from the moment it was released.

I never understand that even if a 4k is a year out I avoid the movie at all cost. But I’m also not great at rewatching things without my enjoyment being greatly diminished with the exception of popstar.

I've been watching my whole Blu-ray/UHD/DVD collection in chronological order since November 2019 (before the pandemic!), when I started with Lumiere Bros shorts from 1895. There's no WAY my OCD was going to allow me to skip something like Scream, which had an actual impact on pop culture and would alter the way horror flicks would forevermore be perceived. Just couldn't do it, despite the bad timing with the soon-to-arrive UHD.

Man, those ratings logos look kinda badass as they fit really nicely with the colouring in the art, the red 18 for the lips and the blue 18 for the eyes.

I pre-ordered this at full price, I don't usually do that with catalogue stuff but this has been so long in coming I just gots to have it on day 1.

I think they should have put the blue logo over the eyes instead of Ghostface, and they should have changed her mouth into the red logo in a larger size to make it more artistic and honor the anniversary of this film.
