Default Prince And The Revolution: Live (1985) Blu-ray box sets

boxed sets.jpg

Quote:
James Brown had the Apollo. Jimi Hendrix had Monterey Pop. And Prince had Syracuse, New York’s Carrier Dome—the March 30, 1985 Purple Rain Tour stop that was beamed to millions live via satellite and captured for posterity in the Grammy Award-nominated concert film Prince and The Revolution: Live, and which has since gone down in history as one of the most iconic live recordings in pop and rock history.

For the first time, this powerful performance has been entirely enhanced and reconstructed: the original video source was rescanned, restored and color-corrected; and the original multitrack audio master reels have been remixed and remastered onto Blu-ray video with selectable stereo, 5.1 surround and Dolby Atmos sound. Prince’s late-career and Grammy-nominated recording engineer, Chris James, remixed the recently discovered source audio, which had remained archived in Prince’s legendary Paisley Park vault for over three decades.

Hear the remixed audio and experience the restored video in the jaw-dropping show opener "Let's Go Crazy," available on Prince's official You Tube channel now.

With this new audio-visually enhanced release of Prince and The Revolution: Live, both longtime Prince fans and new generations of music lovers are invited to experience the groundbreaking, mesmerizing, creative tour-de-force that Prince brought to the stage with The Revolution during the Purple Rain Tour in an entirely new and immersive
way.

The June 3, 2022 release of Prince and The Revolution: Live marks the first time that the concert will be available on vinyl, as a 3-LP set, and on CD, as a 2-CD/Blu-ray set.

Additionally, a limited run Collector's Edition will be available exclusively from the official Prince Store. Judging from the YouTube preview and knowing it was shot on video in the 80s, I suspect this BD will be an upscale. While the DVD and VHS releases were nothing great video wise, I bet this will still look better now, plus with the newly remixed audio in Dolby Atmos, 5.1, and original 2.0.

Pretty exciting! More interested in the live album, but that video would be icing on the cake!

Yeah, I'm not sure why they didn't release a CD of the same Syracuse 1985 concert from the video on this 2017 deluxe edition 3CD+DVD of Purple Rain, but now there's something new to buy!

Well, the vault is open, the rights owners can milk these releases for decades!

I bought the deluxe CD just for that DVD only a year ago. Which wasted a lot of its resolution with useless black boxes on the sides of the 4:3 picture.

Yeah, that's not how Revolution resolution works, but that's ok because you can make the same complaint about the 4:3 on the new BD too.

Oh they still have the concert benefit he did in 83 I think where he introduced Wendy and played the album for the very first time. Sick version of Computer Blue, Case of U and Electric Intercourse. I can't wait till they drop that!!

They could have squeezed that full 720x480 anamorphic resolution in a 4:3 picture. DVD doesn't have quite the same drawback as Blu-ray. There is no need to use widescreen ratios with fullscreen movies.

I guess the concert audio was available digitally, but probably removed to sell this instead.

i find it odd that they chose to re-release a concert already available on dvd - im on the fence about buying it if its just an upscale with better audio( i thought the dvd and audio were fine and due to the age never going to look or sound much better)
i just hope this means we get more Prince live- there are so many other tours that could have been released before this (Lovesexy, parade tour, diamonds etc)
i will wait for the reviews first ...

I'd imagine that the reviews will bash the picture quality without taking into account that it was shot on video.

Yes, that's live at First Avenue. Some of that performance audio ended up in the Purple Rain movie and album.

A childhood favourite concert of mine..i wore out my VHS copy...but i can't wait for a remaster of Prince Birthday gig @ Cabo Hall in 1986 (Parade Tour) and also Lovesexy 88 but i imagine they'll end up as part of any future
Parade and Lovesexy deluxe albums.

Prince Live in New York Dirty Mind tour wouldn't go a miss either. 0+>

Yep that's the one. I have a pretty good boot of it on DVD and an even better audio. But, I would love to have a version from the Estate that is hopefully miles better. Fingers crossed that it exists.

They should also put out his Bday show from First Ave that I think was 1985. They do a sick version of 17 days and All Day all Night I think. The Revolution at their funkiest.

Anybody else try to buy from the Prince official store and apply a one-time 10% discount? I am at the last payment screen and it hasn't taken anything off.

I wonder if it doesn't apply to preorders. I just tried it and am not seeing the discount applied either.
