Afaik, Stallone deeply hates Rocky V.

I hope WB is going to really fix these previous issues.

It's not his movie to recut, he didn't direct it. But I'm one of the two people on the planet who likes it just the way it is, it'll be hilarious if it's the best compressed UHD of the entire bunch and has no audio errors

OK, so this is legit and I appreciate that they're doing standalones for those of us who purchased the previous set. What I need to know before I preorder these is will there actually be another "complete" collection as the thread title suggests with different extras? If there's going to be DC of V exclusive to one release, as unlikely as that may be, I want the DC.

I think Rocky V is a better Rocky movie than Rocky IV. I really like the recut Rocky IV but I want it in 1.85:1. Stallone giveth and taketh away.

Yeah,WB strikes again. The Rocky Balboa Directors cut is only on the 4K disk. The Blu Ray disk in the steelbook is the older disk with just the theatrical cut. Blu Ray users are *bleep* out of luck....again Rocky Vs Drago and Rocky Balboa Directors Cut are both unavailable on the Blu Ray format.I'm sorry but WB sucks and this is not right giving the new directors cuts 4K disk releases only.

It would be nice to have a complete box set with all the errors fixed from the first release.

Totally agree on both counts. Rocky isn't even the same character by IV. V is a return to the guy we saw in I and II. People see V as some sort of downer, but I just can't understand it whatsoever. For Rocky, it was never about the money, the house, the cars, etc. He just wanted to feel validated, like he mattered. Compare the Rocky in the first film, aimlessly wandering alone on the streets, searching for some sort of meaning to his life to the Rocky at the end of V, back in his old neighborhood...yes, right where he started, BUT...with the entire neighborhood chanting his name, his wife and son at his side. No more need to fight, nothing left to prove to anyone - even himself. He has everything he ever wanted, and he didn't need to go anywhere or make a million dollars to find it, because he found it where it always was: within himself. That's one of the happiest sentiments I can possibly imagine.

As for RvD going to 2.35:1, it's one of the most inexplicable things I have ever seen. What gets me most about it is how he worked on the edit at 1.85:1 and WATCHED it at 1.85:1 per the documentary. So the decision to alter the AR had to've been made very last minute. And it was a bad call.

I love Rocky V as well. I was born in 1973 so I was lucky enough to watch Rocky III, Rocky IV, and Rocky V in the theatre. Rocky V came out when I was 17 years old and in the 11th grade. So it was the sweet spot for me and I could relate to the fashion and music from that movie since I was in high school at that time.

If Warner is handling it, not gonna happen. If it's coming from a boutique there's a chance of an attractive set.

Yeah, I will never get how people can attack V for having a dated soundtrack while totally giving IV a pass for the same darn thing. I mean don’t get me wrong, I like the soundtracks / scores to BOTH of those films and think they both work just fine for what they are. But you can’t say one is dated and the other isn’t. They’re both products of their time.

I was just about to say “well, it can’t be any worse than the lazy art they did for the four-film collection”…but then I audibly heard Warner whisper “hold my beer”. I know you’re right…

To the best of my knowledge, the theatrical cut IS the DC. I've never read that the studio took the final cut out of John Avildsen's hands

For sure. I love "Rocky IV", but it's not because it's necessarily a "great" movie. It's because I always loved music videos in the 80s and it's a long-form music video.

And I also like "Rocky V" the way it is - unlike some movies, it's aged even better for me. When I made my kids watch the "Rocky" movies, I prefaced "Rocky V" with a warning that it is the least liked and by the time it was over I was amazed that I didn't think it was bad at all. I liked it a lot. The only thing I don't like about it is casting Sage Stallone as "Rocky Jr." - not particularly because of his performance, but just the break in continuity. Rocky V did that 80s sitcom thing where they wanted an older kid, so they just give the kid an inexplicable age jump and we just have to go with it.

I even bought the soundtrack back then. I am just fine with the "Go For It" montage.

"To be or not to be, dope, that's the question
Are you gonna stop or keep on rushing
For the better, quicker than the next man
To be the best is the master plannnnnnn!"

If you're still 100% supportive of physical media, don't you want the best quality possible?
I watch the majority of my physical media on my computer and monitor.I enjoy watching my media there. I only use my bigger screen T.V. for company.4K is not supported on drives. It was for a very short period and was very expensive when it was but is not possible now. Even if or when I upgrade to a 4K T.V. and player, I still will hardly use it because I don't enjoy watching my media there and can't watch 4K disks where I do want to watch my disks. My first choice will always be the Blu Ray disk due to location and comfort. WB is also the only studio doing this thing of not releasing the new cut of a film on Blu Ray.

As i've said elsewhere, I can understand only putting out a catalog title on 4K disk only if it's already had a previous Blu Ray release. I appreciate when they include the Blu Ray and even upgrad/remaster the blu Ray disk like some of the boutique labels do. But I understand why some are 4K disk only releases if there is previous BD release. I also even understand adding new special features for the new 4K release.Again,I really appreciate when it is a combo and they add the new special features to the BD disk too. But I fundamentally disagree with excluding a new cut of a film from the format.

They could very easily made the directors cuts of Rocky IV and Vi exclusive to the BD disk in the steelbooks only.Blu Ray is far from a dead format and DVD is even longer in the tooth and that still outsells both BD and 4K UHD (and BD outsells 4K). Some things only get a DVD release now and no Blu Ray and 4K which I don't agree with either.
