Fortunately, Apple got their act together on this issue and Nvidia is making progress.

For around 2-½ years now I watch my disc via file play and media players. Still, I have no intention of removing the Sony’s or Oppo from service.
Thanks Wendell. Glad to read you're happy with yours.

In fact my first ever issue with any blu-ray was on the 4K disc of The Shining. The picture froze a couple of times towards the end of the film, but I had already watched this disc at least twice before, so there was no issue with the Sony's. After this last viewing, I put the disc into the other machine and it froze at exactly the same spot, which would tell me the disc was the problem here. Thankfully I have a regular blu-ray of both the theatrical and extended cuts.

The PS5, for its limitations, remains the most reliable 4K player in existence.

It’s a shame Sony didn’t want to pay the Dolby Vision royalties…although I understand why they wouldn’t considering the number of owners who actually play 4k discs.

The first videos I purchased were VHS and now I buy UHD BD like it's going out of style.

I'm pretty happy with the evolution of home video during my time.

I think if discs went away other things would change as well. Some type of DVR for online content would crop up letting people sort of own favorite movies.

Hopefully high quality media wouldn't stop existing but there is a market for it because some people still enjoy art of all types and don't only want the compressed to the max version of things.

Basically what Kaliedescape offers already but there would suddenly be a reason to go that route.

For those who rip media to drives, a 512TB (yup Terabyte) SSD is on SanDisks roadmap for 2027. Sure it would be enterprise and expensive AF, but that’s over 5000 triple layer 4k discs on a single drive…

https://www.techspot.com/news/107888...rise-ssds.html

Including a 128TB model planned for release this year!

That’s me, sitting with a huge smile on my face watching The Hitcher 4K and finally being sable to appreciate every last detail in the animated Watership Down. And that’s just the picture side of it, Living the dream.

I see them all in my iTunes not sure about my Vudu. (Checked and they are all in my Vudu too.)

I have 4 and 5 in 3D.

This one is fun and worthy of the series.

Just curious, do you have a Movies Anywhere (MA) account? If true, do you have iTunes and Fandango (Vudu) linked to MA? Only mention this because MA has the highest data rate for video and almost as high as iTunes for audio.

Unless something has changed Movies Anywhere is only available in the US.

Yes,

I use Movies Anywhere. If possible I redeem directly in iTunes.

I have MA, iTunes, and Fandango but the online copies are used mostly by my kids who have access to all my iTunes through Family Sharing. Usually my Vudu goes unused and while useful I don't really use my MA either. ATV4K is the only home theater component I use that has internet access. All my kids use ATV4K and I tend to take mine with me when I travel. I love it's calibration feature that lets me adjust a hotel TV using my cell phone camera without using the hotel TV controls.

Netflix will show generative AI ads midway through streams in 2026

“[Netflix] members pay as much attention to midroll ads as they do to the shows and movies themselves,” Amy Reinhard, president of advertising at Netflix, said, according to the publication.

So ... not a lot?

Netflix considers its advertising business to be in its early stages, meaning customers can expect the firm's ad efforts to continue expanding at a faster rate over the coming years. The company plans to double its advertising revenue in 2025.

I used my PS3 for BD a lot(was my "travel player") but have never used my PS5, glad you find it a good player.

purchased content has always had a DL option As far as I knw. Subscription with DVR does not make sense IMHO, why won't joe DL a year of content on the "DVR" n a month and then cancel the service?
