that is TOTALLY true!!! but I doubt they would, if that were the case, they would have done these for every blu that is getting a remaster....because technically, the 1st one is inferior....and an error...

although gladiator was bad....but I dont think they would, but who knows, I could be wrong

So all we have is a rumor from Finland and Digital Bits at this point? Would be nice to have a better BD, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm not sure how many remasters have come out on Blu-ray. There's a couple (The Fifth Element, Gangs of New York). Technically, I do think Disney should've set up a replacement program for Gangs of New York since it's the exact same disc just with a different cover, different video and different audio (due to them going for lossless over uncompressed).

But a lazy screw up like Gladiator being labeled as the Sapphire Series is where I think Paramount should make things right with the consumer.

Well, the reports do keep piling up

If this comes to fruition, I'm curious as to whether it will be an exact content copy of the Sapphire series aka both cuts of the film + all special features.

sure hope so for those that have it already....

If I would have been them....If I knew these were bad before releasing it, I would have not released it at all and would have done the remaster asap if I wanted the consumer to be happy....a slight delay would have not hurt....

It will be interesting to see the language used when marketing the new release. Should be very telling of how they view this whole situation. It has always bothered me that they made ZERO comments on the origional release, either to defend or to apologize.

I agree. But, to label a movie as a Sapphire series release and then release such a crappy transfer, only to re-release it like, a year later. Pretty sh!tty thing to do to all your customers. I know, most big companies don't care, but they really should.

We'll see if Jeff responds to a post on the Insider's forum about a re-release.

I'm glad we will be getting a remaster of Gladiator. As soon as I caught wind of a remaster, I sold the initial Gladiator release on eBay. The crazy part was that I sold it for me than I paid for it, I don't know if they were uninformed or just didn't know they could go to Amazon and get it for less. Anyway, I cannot wait to add this Gladiator Blu-ray to my library!

Sony's problem was an authoring error, not using an older master. Technically Paramount didn't do anything wrong, and that's why there probably won't be an exchange program.

The Sapphine edition of Gladiator was an overprocessed mess. Too much noise reduction made the picture look too soft and lacking in detail.

Hopefully, a remastered Gladiator would correct this and the film will finally look like it should on Blu.

SOME people think that the transfer is horrible. I disagree....although not the best...FAR from the worst. Now people are saying WAIT to buy it because there is a rumor that a new remastered version's coming out it May.

No mention of one, no.

Disney didn't do one for their remastered Gangs of New York, so I wouldn't get my hopes up.

But Gangs was one the first blu rays out. Gladiator was not so the mistake on gladiator is not acceptable at all and should warrant an exchange program
