At times it was so over the top I thought I was watching Transformers!!

This is obviously a trend in Hollywood that has been getting more and more common with EVERYTHING lately. What are your thoughts? Have you heard any thoughts on moving away from this from some of the lensers out there?? It is starting to wear on me that everything that should be white on the screen is now teal, and who would have thought that so many consumer items scattered around the sets could be teal as well, there must be a Teal store somewhere in Hollywood that is doing gangbusters!!!
Kris, in my position, I must be ambivalent or at least neutral regarding the matter. In essence, it is *filmmaker prerogative* and I respect all the talent.

The main thing which I find bothersome about the situation is that I’ve heard some internet posters *blame* the practice on digital colorists….implying there are some rogue colorists out there coloring the films as they so desire with the filmmaker either powerless or clueless to the process. In reality, everything which is done in terms of color is based upon what the client (usually the Director or the DP) wants.

For those who wish to forego watching an entire movie having a predominant color scheme which is to their disliking, I think someone should develop a scientific short-cut to enable visually examining the content quickly. I’m not yet sure how accurate this methodology is for all motion pictures but, if so, the teal dislikers may want to avoid the first quarter of Astro Boy…http://moviebarcode.tumblr.com/

But to demonstrate my neutrality, on the other hand, for those who embrace that type of color in any type of moving presentation…over 4 million viewers can’t be all wrong, no? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTXO7...layer_embedded.

Or, for those who love long hair and thigh-highs… from an ‘ol Spidey gal –http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zwvN...eature=related

Kris, on a more serious note, I think you might like knowing that SPHE updated the test signals on Blu-ray releases beginning with How Do You Know (enter 7669 on your remote from the main menu page and they start to play) coming out late this month. I think they are going to be useful for home theater entusiasts.

What these signals enable, which the previous ones did not, is to show when sharpening, noise reduction, or other image enhancements are being instituted by the monitor…often times unbeknownst to some consumers. When utilized on ideal sources like Blu-ray, this signal processing hurts rather than helps, but checking them without suitable samples makes it more difficult to identify.

I’ll post more info on the topic when I’m able to.

Re: Taxi Driver

For those living or visiting the NYC area and/or crave ‘the traditional look’ of theatrical presentation, brand spankin new 35mm prints (originated from Deluxe) will be exhibited here… http://www.filmforum.org/films/taxidriver.html

More test patterns the better. Thanks for the update Penton.

Now I can start adding Sony Blu-rays to my collection of calibration discs.

Very Nice.

Do you know if that option is being offered here in Toronto?

If so I'll be catching the 4K and 35mm presentations.

Well, I can’t say ‘never’, as that is a long time but, in your case, your only option now be the 4K exhibition….however, I don’t think you’ll have much to be concerned over regarding *the lack of choice* given the findings of this international study about resolution…http://www.cst.fr/IMG/pdf/35mm_resolution_english.pdf

If memory serves, the Cliff Notes summary for those who find technical reports a bit overwhelming to process is…
1. Answer print MTF clocked in at a rez of 1400 lines/PH.
2. Of the theaters assessed, I think the highest clocked in at a display rez of 875 lines/PH

Any more technical questions about the report, ask Deci, as unbeknownst to many here, not only is he the Site Manager for Blu-ray.com but, he is also one of the very, very select members who in the pursuit of knowledge has attended more than one of these events - http://www.amianet.org/events/theree...index2008.html...

and every day, staked out the ideal seating location in the theatrical auditorium arriving earlier than many other attendees.

To be crystal clear to those who have not yet taken the time to become members of this forum, that pic be one of the sets (closed) in a stage on the Sony lot utilized for this motion picture…

JimSD, your firmware issue is being investigated. Please note it is early in the step-wise process (i.e. validation -> significance -> solution).

Thank you. Looks like several people have found workarounds by changing the Deep Color setting from Auto to something else.

Received a boat full of PMs from members asking about this piece - https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=5988 . Those of which I’ve read, in essence, asking if the news is directly applicable to a U.S. release.

Answers - Boot yes, guns no. The later got pushed. No more PMs about it please, as I don’t do marketing.

Bodacious ….https://forum.blu-ray.com/insider-di...ml#post3430213

Hey, I’ve been known to pitch tennis…http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Pr...28E/index.html

And everyone knows my affinity for horses…esp. race horses (love the call at thee end) …http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjqEn...eature=related

And I’ve even called out spineless human pirates with dubious excuses for contemplating stealing… https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-mo...ml#post4464988

So, this is a well-rounded zone for those of many interests. Now stop dribbling the ball around in circles will ya?....and cross it as I’m standing here in front of the goal ready to score.

P.S.
Say Hey, in honor of JimSD’s brand new avatar , which I now just noticed at the bottom of the last page of this thread -

Penton,

Is there any work being done for creating a 3D test set for testing a Blu-ray/video display device set-up? And thanks to SPHE for updating the current test set.
