Just finished watching A New Hope on blu ray. Overall Pq was good but in my view did not blow me away. Don't get me wrong many will love it but coming from watching Alien again last week which was shot about the same time i excepted more jump and wow factor.

The film like feel was great with a fine layer of grain and close up shots were great but detail on medium or long shots did not surface in my view that much more than the dvd. Colour change i could live with but there were many shots where the red just took over everything and not just skin tones.

Also i like to run my blu's and their dvd counterparts side by side afterwards just so i can check how much jump my blu rays have before i say goodbye to dvd versions of the film. On checking many scene's side by side the blu ray did not blow it out of the water like many other of my films have done.

Like i said many close up shots were great with everyone showing every pour on there face but detail on ships like the falcon and on medium shots in general only made a slight upgrade in my view. Not trying to start a war on here or trying to look cool by saying bad things against the blu ray but my honest view and my view alone is that its just an ok transfer but nothing special in terms of PQ. Will check out the TESB back later tonight.

I did'nt have a chance to check the AQ because of my set up

THAT change could've been "acceptable" LOL. Alderaan would not have appeared so "wimpy".

His statement was stating the obvious result -- no audio ==> impossible to blow you away anyhow

It only seems like months. LFL/Fox has been very tight-lipped on the subject of transfers and as recently as a few weeks ago the question of new/recycled scans was still very much up in the air.

That's actually always been there as far as I know. It's on Definitive Collection Laserdisc of ANH even.

I never heard it on the VHS version though. But then VHS messed with a lot of the sounds.

Didn't Ewan have two braids? The documentary on the DVD shows him getting his hair cut that way.

I wanna say I even remember that from the theater but that could be one of those 'the blood in Psycho was red, I SAW it, I know it was' kinda things.

I belive they changed it to one for the shoot. Either way you only ever see him with one throughout the film.

Casey B. is in charge of the review and he will do an awesome job . That's is all I know. As you guys can see none of the major sites have a review up...possibly a delay in getting the screeners from the studio.

I hear you. Kiddie Anakin is the worst character in the prequels (yes, he's more irritating than Jar Jar).

This is what I would've liked:
- Attack of the Clones as the first episode.

- Episode II centering entirely around Obi-Wan & Anakin's adventures during the Clone Wars, Anakin becoming a war hero, Padme and Anakin's secret marriage, and Palpatine slowly grasping more power and manipulating both sides of the war.

- Episode III could mostly stay as it was.

Sometimes in film they flip the image to get the right look from the actor, or to better follow the action. Continuity people look for these issues, but if George wanted the actor to look that way, well screw the continuity people.

LOL
