Well, I just finished watching "A New Hope" on Blu, and to be honest I really like it. I'm still disappointed that Luke's training scene wasn't fixed, but what's worse is the small dogfight after Luke, Han, & Leia escape from the Death Star. There's very clear matte boxes around several of the TIE fighters, and one of them is even brown! I looked for this same kind of thing in the final battle, but didn't notice any of it. It blows my mind, that Matthew Wood, Ben Burtt, or Lucas himself wouldn't catch this and fix it. Still, the overall film has never looked better, and it gets an 8.5/10 on the A/V scale from me.

And as for the new poster for Episode I, it definitely sucks. I don't want to be rude, but I've truly seen fans who've done better.

As for the new poster I think it's an improvement over the original, but still leaves a lot to be desired.

The 3D poster looks like shit.

It's a shame, since one thing TPM has always had going for it was an awesome movie poster:

[Show spoiler]

I may not think TPM is a total winner, but that poster definitely is.

Real art always prevails. The 3D one looks like the example picture on the front of a Darth Maul Halloween costume:

I mean come on, at least add some filters, make it more of a collage. That looks like trash.

It's wierd to see Obi and Maul on the poster, but not Qui. If they wanted to focus on how awesome the Duel of the Fates is going to be, they should have at least included him. The poster seems to have too much empty space and a very underwhelming design. I agree that good real art wins every time.

Speaking of real art, I thought I'd go off on a tangent and post this to lighten the mood a little
[Show spoiler]

And because I love a good ol' fashioned mash up, I feel a proper wizard's duel is needed
[Show spoiler]

And since I've gone this far I might as well post this too, since I couldn't stop laughing for several minutes after reading it today. (Warning: Contains Mild Language)

The official poster for "The Phantom Menace" 3D is here. I must say I don't like it. It only features fan-favourites like Maul, Digi-Yoda and the Pod-Race and I'm missing other iconic main characters like Anakin, Qui Gon, Padme or Jar Jar. It's too dark and doesn't capture the excitement of Episode I. They are playing it safe with this poster...
Wow, that is a terrible poster.

That poster is terrible, why couldn't they have used the original with an added "3D" bit? ¬_¬

Who is "you guys"? I ask, because you know, I think that everyone has it's own opinion and you can't throw everyone into the same pot.

I also don't like when some people are complaining the whole time about everything, but really, this poster looks like shit. At a normal company (Lucasfilm is not a normal company, they don't care about quality anymore), everyone who would do something like this, would be fired. Really. That is no art.

I showed this poster to some people, who have no clue about SW. The said to me a couple of things:

- What's the name of the movie? (LFL could just disting the name STAR WARS from TPM and EPI - maybe use famous yellow SW title?)

- What is the movie about? They said it does look like some cartoon and they think this satanic guy is the main protagonist.

- It's great that Natalie Portman is there, but I have to shown them that, because the letters are too small.

Personally, I think LFL should have used famous actors (Portman, McGregor, Neeson, maybe McDiarmid) on the poster, write their names with big letters, use SW yellow title with big 3D, make it less cartoony using less colors and get those podracers, yodas etc. out. This how you do this nowdays and I see nothing negative in complaining about it.

It's still not complete. The special edition music in Empire when Yoda tells Luke that " he will be " then cut the the Star Destroyer has been changed. It was a lot more sinister and no one anywhere has noticed this change. Also, on the Blu of Attack of the Clones there is the missing alien sub title translation for the Gran ( three eyes dude ). He's says something like " the debate is over we need that clone army now " Its just not there. The are more so a compilte list would be nice.

Will this be a full 3D release or more like Tron Legacy with only some scenes in 3D? Or was it some scenes in 2D, I can't remember the exact disclaimer at the front of TL?

As critical as I am of the movie, itself, the original release poster is fine. There is little to complain about with it.

This just looks like a bad, half-assed fan-made photoshop poster. Even the text just doesn't flow very well. It looks like it's made of random, different fonts that don't really work well together (at least now the way that they are layed out and sized here).

It is just very poorly executed on many levels. This whole "people will always find something to complain about" crap has to stop. Many of the gripes about the films, themselves, and about this poster are more than legitimate.

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 3D Poster Improves On The Original

Quote:
Who’s missing? Little Anakin! The littlest version of Darth Vader, who was front and center in the original poster isn’t featured on the poster above, nor is Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn, C-3PO, Jar Jar or Natalie Portman as Padme/Queen Amidala, all of whom were featured on the original. Cutting down on the characters featured on the poster not only eliminates clutter, but it also pushes the attention toward some of the stronger aspects of the film (and away from Jar Jar). They also eliminated the random lens flare effect, which is an upgrade as it gives the poster a clean, crisp look and makes the most of the color.

Yeah, it's much better than the original.

Yeah, it's much better than the original.
Original poster looks classy, Maul is a partially hidden threat, it's very warmly coloured ... new poster looks like a kid's mash of publicity stills; Yoda looks bored and Obi-Wan like he just wants to finish the photoshoot and go home. Looks like they're trying to sell the podrace and Maul fight with the poster.

Is there really anything else worth selling in the film?

Plus, it makes more sense having Palps hidden in the background than Maul, considering he's the hidden sith lord masterminding the whole thing.

I have the US version (Complete Saga). Does anyone else have the UK set that has noticed this missing subtitle?? I wonder if something is wrong with your disc??

The "you guys" I was referring to are these internet fans that know everything yet can't seem to get a job to show what they can do, but want to complain about "EVERYTHING" that comes along.

I get sick of reading about how something sucks, like these guys are great and awesome film makers. I just hate these armchair internet complainers. Everything sucks and they are never happy with anything. When it's legit, I understand, but EVERYTHING?

Come on.

I remember distinctly that Producer Rick McCallum blew a head gasket in the British Star Wars magazine back in 2000 when a fan asked him if Darth Maul survived. "Didn't you see the movie? He was cut in half and fell down a shaft!"

It was also Lucas' choice to make Maul's death as final unquestionable as possible by adding him gushing red mist and splitting in half as he tumbled down the shaft. This is stupid, as the character was never meant to return.
