I suppose if the bandwidth was there the streaming services could hypothetically do it, but it seems it'd be a huge undertaking for broadcasters(assuming the gov't even approved it). I'd also be curious to see what you all have to say regarding Baraka, etc. regarding the future of picture quality. I always find these discussions to be fascinating, as many people on the site at least SEEM to have a certain degree of knowledge.
Yeah, discussions are fine, but it's hilarious when people start throwing out stuff like "it'll NEVER be a home video format" when in reality they have ZERO basis for fabricating such a definitive statement, and even then it's only pure speculation, not fact. No one knows what will happen. I'm pretty sure 15 years ago, these same people would've said there'd never be an iPhone, either. It's just people trying to justify their collection, and as we all know, people WILL continuously upgrade or be left behind.

After Blu-ray, that's it for me. I won't be throwing more money at Hollywood.

No.

I check in here every day or two and read all the new posts like an OCD idiot, and it's just the same ol' back and forth:

Could you post a link to that info?

Thanks Todd.

Finally!

I was wondering when someone was going to post this here, as I was reading that over there this morning.

We just need to wait for some screen comparisons to see if it indeed is hopefully true.

It seems it is only one Amazon poster which makes this extremely unlikely.

I didn't even know that thread existed on that forum. Sounds like someone needs to tell them that the EE was definitely NOT tinted or darkened - and if it was, well then, er... uh, to quit being crybabies and suck it up.

I bought the set for $49

Haven't watched Fellowship yet. I've seen it on so much that I just didn't want to sit through it again. I did watch Two Towers and my God! That movie is long as hell. Felt very fleshed out though. I liked it, but I should've been more prepared for it.

I think 8k scans should become standard as this allows studios a good investment for 20 years of formats.

Someone said something about 4k screen 55 inch..errr negative. Screens are already 4k in prototype but measure more like 80+ inch as standard. At that size and with a 4k blu-ray it would be like lossless audio, for the video side. The best possible if source is scanned right, at 4k.

No one smart is saying there won't be a new format. Though, blu-ray 4k will be only for the videophiles/wealthy. It will be sooo niche and each catalog title - especially - will cost way more than currently.

OK. This beats the poster above. POTC II+III have pretty flawless VFX, but LOTR has so many absolutely silly moments, it's not even funny anymore.
It's obvious that you have a bias. Just look at your avatar: a cgi prequel yoda. Sorry, but the visual effects for are better than star wars. In fact if you compare the visuals of Jurassic park: star wars prequels have always been dated.

"This Bickering Is Pointless"

I thought this was the Lord Of The Rings thread... not the Bash Star Wars Prequels thread?

Both film series have their good effects and their bad effects. All movies do. But films are not all about effects. It's not like people loathe the original King Kong now adays because the special effects of Kong don't hold up to modern special effects. So let it go. Jesus... it's freakin' old.

If you read the review, you can tell that the guy really knows what he's talking about, but yeah, the real question is if it's all just monkey shines. I hope it's true, but I doubt it.

OFF TOPIC

For my tastes, the Dream Theater blu-ray is ridiculously good!

Guys I was wondering, is it worth getting the EEs for $50? I loved the Theatrical cuts, but I hear they have bad transfers. Plus, I have never actually seen the EE version for The Return of the King.

Ahh, the ole "there's no green tint in MY new version!"

I'll believe that when I see it with my own eyes. There's been so, so, so many people proven to be totally incompetent when it comes to seeing this issue that I really won't trust some random dude on Amazon, regardless of how legit he sounds. I need to see trusted screencaps, or official confirmation from a source that has some ties to the release.

I really doubt it's been fixed, I suspect it's just people who are incapable of telling the difference, as usual. Call me a cynic but hey, I've dealt with enough of the "MY version" people in this thread to know better.

The "green tint" is only really bad when you compare it to the DVD versions or the digital copy versions that come with the set...
