Unhappy DVD Active's U.K. Predator review (CHECK OUT SCREENSHOTS)

Does not sound promising. I would rather FOX took their time on some of these classic action films.

http://www.dvdactive.com/reviews/dvd/predator2.html

Quote:
Unfortunately Fox again fails to treat an iconic film with the respect it deserves. This is one of the biggest action films of the 80s starring one of the biggest names in Hollywood—a bare-bones disc really isn't good enough. While this is currently the best looking and sounding version of Predator available—purely by virtue of the fact that it is a high-definition release—it still falls considerably short of my expectations for the format. Predator should have been completely remastered and given a full compliment of bonus material to really show off the capabilities of the Blu-ray format. Die hard fans might want to pick this one up to tide them over, but it's over-priced, under-specced, and I can't see it shifting many Blu-ray players.
Check out the screenshots.

They look pretty good to me.

i think Wicky said it in another thread: That´s the way many of these films looked in the 1980's. So i don´t think there is much room for improvement, if we don´t want to go down the overprocessing road (which i for one do not).

I had no intention on buying this anyway and since it is a Fox title it was bound to be screwed up in some way or another.

I agree with the above replies. I think in some cases we should be expecting some really great video quality from releases like new movies for example. But we can't expect it all the time with catalog releases. But with that said I think the screenshot comparisons look great to me and the Blu-ray is a definite upgrade. I hope the audio sounds great as well. Definite buy!!!

I dont really care if a disc has special features or not. Half the time i dont even watch them. I will only watch them if i am curious about how something was done, or if its a comedy ill watch the gag reel(i.e. superbad and good luck chuck both had amazing special feature that had me laughing the whole time)

WHY HAS NO ONE SAID IT YET?!

GET TO DA CHOPPA!

lol. In all likelihood, I will be picking this one up as well, I mean - it has to be the best release available. Heck of a lot better than my DivX and my DVD versions. And the sound, too - the sound must be fantastic in DTS. It's not just all about PQ - I get the feeling a lot of users completely forget about the amazing sound quality in Fox BluRays.

It says at the bottom of the review:

* Note: The images on this page are not representative of the Blu-ray edition

Sounds like a pretty shoddy BD release to me, I'd rather pay £3.99 in HMV for the DVD

I have the dts DVD, but the review seems to be pretty positive for PQ.
Sounds like it's worth the upgrade to me.

I posted this thread after reading the review. But someone commenting on the review posted screenshot comparisons of the German release (posted in first and second posts).

I am now happy enought to pick this up even though its the bare bones.
