Well Swope is an Eclipse release, even though you can already get a dvd of it with commentary by Downey. Lame.

But remember, people will eat that shit up now because it has a wacky C on it.

I'm definitely down for both Bergmans, and a maybe for La Haine and Certified Copy, need to check them out first.

Edit: to clarify, when I say shit, I use it as a figure of speech, The set is far from it.

I know they are putting Swope in the set to sell it (just like they did with Daisies last month). But come the F on. People buy Eclipse for those obscure Downeys, not for Swope to be on it feature-less.

I agree, it is a bit lame, but it could be worse, none of them could come out at all. There's a lot in the Eclipse line that deserves better releases.

Nevermind that it includes 4 other films as "extras"!

I am down for both Bergmans, especially since one is at the lower price point. Disappointed they didn't include the recut of Monika. Down for Certified Copy. I might be down for La Haine, I just have to watch it first.

I might end up getting the Downey Sr. box set for the rest of the films, but I am not too sure.

Wow, really solid line-up ! I am really glad for some of these titles. Definitely in for Certified Copy, Summer with Monika, Summer Interlude and Eclipse Series 33: Up All Night with Robert Downey Sr. (AWESOME! Title for an Eclipse ). I am not all that interested in Being John Malkovich, though; for some reason it just doesn't appeal to me. Have yet to see La Haine and although I may end up getting it, I am a little disappointed with the lack of upgrades so far. I am sure there is a lot of people happy with this release but I still want to see some of the heavy-weights! Taste of Cherry, Le Samourai and The Cranes are Flying just to name a few. Also, what is it with the Certified Copy cover? It looks horrible and derivative. So many possibilities within such a beautiful film and they went with a dull grey/white color scheme ?

Another thing I am really liking are these amazing lower-price point releases. I like how there is at least one every month. Summer Interlude is all the more attractive now. Great idea, I am sure The Makioka Sisters and Identification of a Woman sold pretty well because of it.

Have to agree with most of the comments about the covers.

But hey, like most people I don't buy Criterion for the cover.

...I buy them for the spine!

(kidding, kidding...)

La Haine = Nice! Will probably be picking up all of these even though I already have Certified Copy and La Haine on Blu.

What are some of the all time worst Criterion covers? I'd say we have two candidates this month.

If I hadn't seen these on the Criterion website, I would have guessed that they were fake.

I am feeling a little down because of this too . There has been a really serious shortage of upgrades this year. Probably my fault, I was pretty excited about the possibility of Taste of Cherry.

I can't speak to all of the alternatives, but having both the Criterion DVD and Studio Canal Blu-Ray of La Haine, the Studio Canal version is a major upgrade in picture quality, but the Criterion subtitle translation is better (far more descriptive) and since I don't speak French, It's worth it for me to upgrade to the Criterion Blu.

I'm pretty happy with the Artificial Eye version of Certified Copy, so the Criterion won't be a huge priority, but I may get it at some point.

I just imported the U.K. release of La Haine last month. Doubt it could be any better from a PQ/AQ standpoint. Overall not to bad a line up.
