As I said, I created a comparison between the different editions of the Aristocats (Gold Collection / Special Edition DVD / HDTV rip / Special Edition Blu-ray)
* not all pictures are exact frames, but most are * I also made two overlapping pictures to show off the difference between the current edition and the 1.33:1 Gold Collection edition. I must say the comparison looks good. The "Gold Collection" looks awful in comparison to the Special Edition, but the Blu-Ray blows both out of the water. Beautiful sharp lines! Coloring seems a wee bit faded ?

Yes and no. While it is the first BD which will have the distinctive "xerox look", Fox and the Hound was the first Xerox film on Blu-ray.

It was very striking to me that the one scene in which Edgar overhears the inheritance blabla, it looks more like a colored-in sketch than a fully finished piece of animation. But it has it's charms I guess. I'll definitely be picking this up come November. |

![]() ![]() The BD seems to look great: - very sharp, of course; - the colors are actually pretty close to what they were on the Golden Collection; apparently the Special Edition colors were too bright; - and the AR looks good too, I must say; I always prefer to see as much from the original artwork as possible. In this case you lose quite a bit from the top and bottom, while gaining a little on the left and right. But in the end, I think, it does the intentions justice. For example the scene at the end now really focuses on the two side by side watching the moon. In the 1.33:1 picture the focus is... well... everywhere and nowhere, if you know what I mean. It also seems they took into account quite accurately what was important (leaving that on) and what wasn't (chopping it off), as the framing seems to shift accordingly. Were there no glaring framing mistakes this time, like there were on the Fox and the Hound "trial and error"?... ![]() |

Well, Disney blew it. I cannot believe how badly they butchered this title with DNR. Their DNR jobs on their previous classics was well done. This time it was a disaster.

I've canceled my pre-order. This is seriously disappointing that I'm now going to have a gap in my collection of Disney classics. ![]() |
