absolutely. i might have to rethink what i've been saying for the last 2 years now that nintendo has come out a bit pricier than expected. but 299-399 is happening. ps3 price has nothing to do with the ps4

It's pretty ridiculous after six years, Sony won't go lower in price. Same for Xbox.
Wait till they unbundle the consoles. This new 250gb is not likely to be $270 or $250.

I think this oen looks better. I hated the square shape of the old system which I found to be ugly. The rectangular model looks so much more appealing

It was an example of things they "could" get by without in theory. I'm sure there are others.

But thanks for nitpicking on the details without addressing the general point

I'm not so sure. A $99 PS3 right now might make one susceptible to sticker shock if the 4 is $400-600, but if it only costs twice as much, that might not seem so bad. At least to some.

Likely so. If you want one of the current slim models, you might want to pick one up sooner than later.

Wow, that's some cool plastic top loader.. Betamax now has competition.

Now seriously, I'm glad I bought a PS3 Slim 250GB (Series 2000) instead of this thing.

Supposedly, yes.

However, judging by the looks of where the HDD was inserted on the original PS3 Slim, on the new PS3 Slim it appears to have been removed.

P.S.: This is a PS3 Slim not a "Super Slim" as IGN and whatnot have been naming it, it's a non-official term. This is a PS3 Slim model 4000, so it could be called "PS3 Slim - 4k Model" (same for PS3 Slim - 2k/3k Model).

I would expect a PS4 to sell at $599 but good luck trying to get them to move it's not that huge jump like it was between a Ps2 to Ps3.

All it would be doing is adding features desktop users have had for awhile now.

I agree, from my time working at Gamestop, people bought new Wii systems in different colors, they buy the special editions of the Xbox...it just looks cool.

Its slimmer than the current Slims, hence the "Super Slim" moniker. Its used purely to differentiate between the different models

Yes, you can still upgrade the HDD.

Prying open the top end of the casing reveals the hard drive bay, where we find a standard 5400rpm Hitachi hard drive - a Z5K500 HTS545050A7E380 model. It's a single platter 7mm drive but the bracket is large enough to support the more common 9.5mm units too.

Not happening. I'd be shocked to see a $499 model, unless Sony also has a "lite"-r version at $399.
I'm sure that Sony has learned their lesson (in both timeliness and pricing) since 2006, but if they haven't ... god help them

Also, this time around, the BR drive won't be nearly as much of a cost hog as it used to be, same for the CPU.

Yeah the 2 most costly componants for the PS3 are no longer an issue.

I can't see this being anywhere above 350 and thats still a lot of money. But as long as it's below 400 I'll be buying it day one.

Oh, so it's kind of like on Xbox 360, I'd never guessed they moved the HDD compartment up there. Thanks for the post.

What do you base this off other than opinion? It isn't as simple as, 'Sony learning their lesson' with the PS3. Although i'm certain Sony won't be bold (or stupid) enough to Price the PS4 at $800, this doesn't mean they can turn around and sell a system for $299. Not in this market. Fact is that the dollar is weaker than it was six years ago. The fact that people think that the PS4 will be closer in price to a TWELVE year old system *$299 AT LAUNCH* (PS2) than the PS3 blows my mind.
