I loved TDKR, and my initial early reaction was over the top, totally amazing ridiculousness. Since having time to reflect, I still very much appreciate it and I have popped in the blu a few times to give it a spin, but ranked it #6 on my list. Just can't sit here and claim it was the best movie of the year, it wasn't.
Even #6 was in doubt, because I still waffle between which flawed movie I enjoy more, TDKR or my #7 Prometheus. |

I don't understand all the hate for The Dark Knight Rises. I did not vote because I did not see enough movies this year to warrant a vote, but from what I have seen, TDKR is worthy of the top spot.
As far as who will take #1, I think it will be Django Unchained, based on two reasons. (1) It was in theaters more recently, so it is still fresh to everyone. Just wait until the blu ray comes out, then let the hate begin. (2) For some reason, if a movie has too much mass appeal (TDKR), then the members here will find ways to destroy the movie. |

Yeah, I'm not getting the TDKR hate either. I'm curious to know how many times everybody's seen it. It's one of those movies that gets better on repeat viewings.
I'd love it if it came up as #1. |

I've seen it three times and find my self liking it less with each viewing, still give it an 8/10 though and it was #14 on my top 20, out of the 63 2012 movies I've seen.

I don't hate TDKR, in fact I very much enjoyed it, it's just not worthy of the title of best film of 2012 in my opinion. Especially when the other option appears to be Django Unchained which was awesome and, much like Basterds, will likely improve with each subsequent rewatch.

This, for the most part (haven't seen Django so I literally can't agree with that being a better option.) I loved Rises. I saw it twice in theaters, and I have watched the blu twice at home as well. 4 viewings and plenty more coming over time, but plain and simple, I thought 5 other films were better from 2012. Absolutely no hate for it, just can't say I felt it was the best movie. |

Exactly, although I won't even say I was let down by it technically. I just found other films to be really, really impressive. |

I'm not a big time repeat viewer. Heck, even with my relatively small Blu collection, quite a few I haven't watched since Ive bought them. I've seen the Dark Knight Rises 4 times, twice in theater and twice on Blu, and it was the only one I wanted to watch again each time after it was over.
In fact it was a big reason why Avengers moved from second to third for me was after I watched it on Blu, I wasn't immediately thinking afterwards that I wanted to watch again. I have Django sixth on my list, and has nothing to do with that reason. While I loved it, I just had more complaints about it than TDKR. |

In retrospect, 2012 felt like a year where the movies just weren't good enough. Almost all of my favorites suffer from flaws and I can't say any of them were even close to being perfect films. The two movies I have the fewest quibbles about are Silver Linings Playbook and Lincoln. But of course I'm a bit more passionate about some of those more flawed movies.

![]() #2. Django Unchained
![]() 1,443 Points | Votes: 85 | Peak: 1 (16 Times) Directed by Quentin Tarantino Starring: Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson Rotten Tomatoes: 89% | iMDb: 8.6 | Watch Trailer "Bold, bloody, and stylistically daring, Django Unchained is another incendiary masterpiece from Quentin Tarantino." - RottenTomatoes "Without doubt the most entertaining and impulsive of films this year, the film only gets better with repeat viewings. Stunningly shot, acted and staged; this is film making at it's best." - Scholer ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- #1. The Dark Knight Rises ![]() 1,496 Points | Votes: 99 | Peak: 1 (11 Times) Directed by Christopher Nolan Starring: Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman Rotten Tomatoes: 87% | iMDb: 8.6 | Watch Trailer "The Dark Knight Rises is an ambitious, thoughtful, and potent action film that concludes Christopher Nolan's franchise in spectacular fashion." - RottenTomatoes "There's a ton of nuances to this story, a ton of great memorable scenes, and of course, a ton of pleasing action scenes. Best of all, it only gets better the more you watch it. It's an excellent finale to an excellent series." - Al_The_Strange |

Even with the extra 5 points for first place votes this year, the movie with more votes (TDKR) still won over the movie with more first place votes (Django). If MarkJ801 is still up for it next year, our Top 20 lists should be the "nomination" system, then after a separate thread is created announcing the nominees, everyone who posted a list can PM their vote for the best film out of the nominees. That way it is like an Awards vote, but decided by an entire community. Just an idea. Thanks for your work Mark!

02: Django Unchained - haven't seen. Really wanted to, but never got around to it.
![]() 01: TDKR - #4 from my list. Woohoo! ![]() Thanks to Mark and all contributors for making this fine list. The hard work is much appreciated. ![]() I think the list overall is pleasing, even though I haven't seen a lot of the films listed. |
