The adventure soars out of the screen for the first time ever on Blu-ray 3D this Christmas.

Personal thoughts: Never saw the conversion, but heard it was well done. Will pick it up, but with Amazon's £24.99 asking price, I'll probably try to find the US version a bit cheaper as well as sooner.

EDIT: So said, so done. £17.01 including shipping from Amazon US.

The 3D's pretty good, if a little forced. It's the DNR'ed/tango'd look that the film now has which is the most contentious issue.

Wow! This took it's time to release over here. I got mine back in May from the USA.

It is a cracking 3D blu-ray though. I'm happy with it and when i watch it in 2D, I always use the 3D disc because the audio sounds that much better.

Wouldn't pay £24.99 for it though. It's only $20 at Amazon.com at the moment so you'd be better off importing it.

It's a great package for that price, 3D BD + 2D BD with extras + DVD + UV copy is a billy bargain. Folks would be crazy to get the UK one.

20 years on since its first release, Steven Spielberg’s dinosaur theme-park saga looks as if it was made for 3-D. And if you see it (as I did) in an IMAX cinema, the effect is so immersive as to be overwhelming. Source

Seeing a Brachiosaurus life-sized on the screen was impressive. And the entire T-Rex attack sequence was amazing, especially on the larger IMAX screen. And with dinosaurs popping out of the screen, spitting at the audience, and other fun stuff, it's a film well suited for the 3D experience. Source

Seeing the movie again, this time on the Imax screen in 3D, and in the light of the endless inferior epics I've endured over the past 20 years, I would like to take this final opportunity to say publicly that I loved every fascinating, suspenseful, frightening, skilfully calibrated minute of it. Fortunately, with Jurassic Park, StereoD and Spielberg have delivered one of the sharpest and most satisfying 3D “legacy” titles to hit theaters. Unlike post-conversions on more recent movies (which are typically shot digitally), StereoD spent over a year converting Jurassic Park into 3D from the original 2D film stock – regularly meeting with Spielberg to show him work-in-progress and receive feedback... the 3D makes certain minute details more vibrant, such as the pattern and texture on the Dilophosaurus fan. Similarly, that added dimension actually causes the CG creations to look more realistic and even masks a few muddled shots from the original release – shots where a disconnect between digital effects and practical assets (sets and actors) might have otherwise been noticeable. Not every film will benefit from a post-conversion treatment but, even in the 1990s, Jurassic Park delivered unparalleled spectacle – and while visual effects and 3D technology have evolved significantly, the JP film experience hasn’t been dated by time. But Jurassic Park 3D wasn't just awesome because Jurassic Park is awesome. The 3D conversion really does make you feel like you're watching a whole new movie. From a technical perspective, the conversion is remarkable. It's by far the best fake 3D I've ever seen, and I would hazard that it's better than the 3D on some films that were actually shot that way. Source

The 3D conversion only adds to Spielberg’s tension-fuelled Jaws-meets-Westworld narrative – notably when a velociraptor leaps at the camera in the nail-chewing finale. Best of all, that sense of wonder that sweeps palaeontologist Sam Neill’s face when he first sees the dinosaurs... you’ll still feel it too. Source

Not unlike Avatar -- the event film most credited with resurrecting the 3D craze -- Jurassic Park 3D works because its setting provides the viewers with a fully immersive experience in that world. Not since audiences took a trip to Pandora has a 3D film really provided such a "you are there" feeling. Source

And those were just the first hits pulled off Google. I don't doubt that there are the occasional lesser reviews for the film but the majority of reviews for the 3D version were positive - a lot of them overwhelmingly so.

I got the US version of this in April, which cost me about £30 - and I never got around to watching it as I held out for our cinema relase. Ah well, such is life.

Still, I did see it three times in IMAX 3D - two in digital, once on a 15/70 print - and it was incredible. These were viewings 11, 12 and 13 of Jurassic Park on the big screen for me so I've seen it a good few times and I have never seen it look better. Absolutely incredible. The remaster and the 3D just makes it all look so crisp and vibrant (not in a distracting or unnatural way) - the whole image just pops. Absolutely stunning. No idea what it looks like on the small screen but the IMAX 3D experience was just amazing.

They say that plenty will prefer it to the 2011 version and gave the 3D a 4/5. And Digital Bits gave the video a B+ in their review. Sounds fine (if not perfect) to me.

Which IMAX Digital screen did you see it on? The one I saw was dreadful - the top and bottom of the picture were heavily cropped, so much so that you couldn't see the T- Rex's head when it roars at the end, and the sound was terrible - barely any bass (no ground shaking during the T-Rex approach/attack) and the general volume cranked up high to compensate, leaving the dialogue oppressively loud and trebly. That was at the Odeon Swiss Cottage LIE-MAX screen. £17 down the toilet.

Probably a dumb question, but can I play the 3D version on my non-3D plasma (via PS3) and enjoy the 2D presentation? Is the 3D version (watched in 2D) generally considered better than the slightly rubbish 2011 2D release?

The Odeaon Southampton IMAX - it had none of the problems yours suffered from so I don't know what your projectionist was up to. As I say, it looked better than ever and sounded fantastic (t T-Rex roar was just...wow). So it doesn't sound like it was the IMAX transfer. Sorry that you had a bad experience though.

You'd need both a 3D player and 3D TV to watch it in 2D. I'm not 100% but the disc would also need to allow 2D playback like Titanic.

Depends on the studio, some like Disney let you playback 3D disc in 2D TV and player.

There isn't a 2D version on the 3D disc for this release, but in my opinion, I prefer this transfer to the 2011 2D release. The sound is much better too.

The only reason I am able to watch this in 2D is because my Panasonic 3D Plasma has a setting that allows you to switch off the 3D on a 3D disc.

Titanic is locked to 3D. That's why there's a separate 2D disc in the package.

But, FYI, if you have a 3D TV and 3D player then the disc doesn't need to allow the 2D, you simply turn off the 3D mode on the TV. However, if there's no selectable 2D/3D on the Blu-ray disc then people with 2D setups are shit out of luck.
