Yeah, nothing has changed.

I wouldn't be surprised if the extended version came to Blu when the second movie is released on Blu.

Thumbs up

Wow, nice review, thanks for the heads up owa. This blu looks like a must own blu-ray, 2 disc set, great picture and sound, loads of extras. I was debating on whether to upgrade my DVD version of this, looks like I will for sure. Too bad the extended version isn't on the DVD, but I thought the theatrical version was great.

Another movie I refuse to buy until they stop double-dipping like they are going to do with Golden Compass.

I refuse to buy the "Theatrical Version" only to have an unrated version released later like is already available on DVD.

I don't care much for extras, so I'll be getting this release in Mid-May (pre-ordered via Amazon, of course).

And I don't think the practice of double-dipping will ever end until Joe Consumer is on to it, and actually refuses to buy one version over the other. But, I don't see that happening. Personally, the only time I ever double-dipped was with LOTR, then LOTR: Extended.

I plan on buying this as soon as it comes out. My fiance has not watched this yet, she's going to have to, so we can see the second movie in the theaters. What a way for her to watch it, Blu-Ray rocks. Disney has done an amazing job at their Blu's. As for the special features, I rarely watch them. But this is something that I am looking forward to, and counting down for.

I haven't seen the extended cut of this movie. Some movies really benefit from extended / unrated / director's whatever cut, like Daredevil, Ultraviolet come to my mind as being a vast improvement over their theatrical components. However, when I watched the punisher extended cut, I didn't like it as much as the theatrical.

I need to watch the dvd extended cut of this movie to make the decision whether to buy this release or some future release that is not yet announced (or wait for a box set after all 3 movies are done).

uhhhh, there is not unrated cut on DVD for Golden compass. Only a special features disc with a bunch of deleted scenes.

I never noticed the extended scenes. I saw the movie once in the theaters. Second time I saw it, it was the extended cut. Didn't see the difference. It's a far cry from, say, the Extended Cuts of "Lord of the Rings" or "The Abyss"

Course that might just be their way of trying to stop us from cashing in too
I remember Warner Bros. offering a free DVD if you sent in proofs of purchases from several of their movies. Though WB's snapper cases put the PoPs in a decent place that didn't detract from the look of the case, I still didn't bother with it. I could have gotten a lot of free movies though.

Universal had a similar deal, but I believe there PoPs were in a more noticable place.

I've gotten some DVDs where they included the PoPs on a seperate sheet inside the case. I LOVE this idea, but I'm sure the studios are afraid that consumers would buy the movie, take out the insert, and return the movie (with the CSR unaware of it being missing)... or thieves simply taking it out of the case.

I have "Unbreakable" and "Coyote Ugly" on DVD and Blu-ray, and would be eligible for the rebate, but I just can't force myself to destroy the packaging. I will be getting Narnia on Blu-ray, but I only have the "Extended" version on DVD... which should be ineligible (I would think).

I wasnt stating there is an unrated version available now, but rather im tired of versions existing at the time of release that are not an option on blu.

Note there is an international version that appears different then the US version and definitely different then the blur-ray version.

Here is the UK 2 disk EXTENDED version
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Golden-Compa...9492021&sr=8-2

Here is the US 2 disk "Special Edition"
http://www.amazon.com/Golden-Compass...9492103&sr=8-4

I wont buy this movie until they release it with more content then is available now. And I still wont buy any Theatrical version of anything, but thats just my taste. I prefer what the director intended and wasnt left on some chopping block floor due to the MPAA or to satisfy some studios execs.

+1

Or they planning on releasing a package of both movies with some more extras, better packaging and extended releases.

Default The Chronicles of Narnia - OUTSTANDING & flawless!!

link:

http://www.hometheaterspot.com/fusio...ost/last/#LAST
Video:

"The video presentation was on par with the audio and is in the class with some of the best we have seen from blu-ray high definition video. The AVC encoded video had an average bitrate of 26 mbps which was apparent as the level of detail visible at times was exquisite. Images depth was appreciable from almost any camera shot. Objects within backgrounds had definable structure/texture which made them appear very lifelike and three dimensional. The video was very dynamic and potent resolve that gave it a transparent lustrous quality. Shadow detail was excellent which helped the many dark shots like those in the woods, at the rock table, and in the beavers den retain the aforementioned definable texture and depth of field. Blacks were not inky but had enough dynamic range and depth that they didn’t appear dark gray. Elevated contrast delivered bright punchy whites and eye popping primary colors. It retained good delineation and fine gradation within bright scenes containing white/gray detail. Colors were vividly reproduced with excellent depth and saturation that made them look natural in appearance. Fleshtones were on the creamy side but I suspect that was more to do the complexions of the cast rather than any post processing of the video. One or two scenes softened just a bit but these scenes contained CGI backgrounds with actors in the foreground. This is in the nature of mixing in CGI and not necessarily a problem with the video itself. Needless to say there were no signs of video noise related to the encoding. There may have been a hint of grain visible but it never drew attention to itself in negative way. This is a first rate video presentation that is near flawless."

AUDIO is flawless too.

This movie is on my hit list too

DISNEY THANK YOU for everything you did so far for BD.

Thank you very much

That's awesome. Now if they'd just release a directors cut that flesshed out a bit more of the story.

Then again, I'll probably pick it up anyways.

I thought the demo (at SonyStyle) looked great and I am very happy to see that the BD is reference quality. Nemo looks great.
