4K rant of the day:
When will the expert press and industry start using only UHD. I'm seriously starting to be annoyed by the term "4K". 1st, it's not. 2nd, it's ultra gimmicky, and they have to market more than a number (though for now that's all they have) to get the videophiles to dive in, we are the real early adopters who are willing to go through the growing pains (though after blu-ray I'm not sure that still holds as true). Now we'll have to reeducate everyone. Edit: Imagine if the study group's recommendation are followed and we do get real 4K res, what will they call that, True 4K ![]() ![]() ![]() (P.S. I know it's just used as a perfect tie-in to movie theaters, but still, grrrr ![]() ![]() Last edited by pentatonic; 04-05-2014 at 10:24 PM. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Don’t sweat the details ![]() Personally, I’m rather fine in holding back from calling it UHD, UHDTV, Ultra this or Ultra that until consumers are delivered superior audio/video parameters other than increased pixels be it exactly 4K or approaching 4K. I’m saving the UHD acronym for the future. |

Additionally, regular readers of this thread with good recollection were cognizant of the real world end repercussions as regards to ‘consumer 4K’ and ‘theatrical 4K’ thusly answering the mastering question correctly, over 2 years ago - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ng#post5724086
So anyway, for me, this is one example of some parameter(s) that qualify as *UHD*….“4:2:2, 10-bit, 4K UHDTV signal at 60fps” - http://www.rapidtvnews.com/index.php...hd-future.html |

![]() Agreed. But it somehow still annoys me, go figure ![]() (I think it's more in the way it's advertised than the actual name of it. I know my Sony is a "2K" set within those parameters, but HD sounds nicer lol) |

4K and HDR….http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/beh...act-hdr-693965
Question – What would it take to show 4K B.T.2020 HDR content with a front projector in a commercial theater? Answer – A LOT. Significantly more difficult to do so than with flat panels. Must save the elaboration on this topic for another day….some future tie-in. I already spent too much time reading ![]() |

Steed, I only got through the 1st half and I fear our fate is no longer in our hands. Typical one-dimensional Arsenal play.

Don’t feel badly though as I find your honesty and tech humbleness refreshing. ![]() Anyway, refer back to that pdf that Wendell downloaded from Ron Jones’s blog for the particulars or else go directly to the HDMI forum website as it should have the new 4K formats supported by HDMI 2.0 listed in one of dem colorful tables, somewhere. ![]() Well, I don’t think that 4K camcorder that Sony has listed for $2,000 qualifies as a ‘pro’ camera, hell it was announced at that last CES....'C' as in consumer. Maybe a prosumer video camera. Anyway, I guess it all depends on an individual’s wallet size and how much one is into the hobby. |
