Due to the lack of a clear viable business model, I know there are quite few broadcasters (esp. terrestrial) that curse the day the ITU chose ‘4K’ (and ‘8K’) as the spatial resolutions for UHD, rather than just settling on HD 1080p with all the other next gen parameters in Rec.2020.

Tell me more , or better yet post a link to where the mapping method is described in detail. I’m comfortable reading about color (e.g. http://opencolorio.org/). The metatdata portion of the total solution you allude to seems like advancement on the work from Jurgen’s IS R&D group….. http://www.imaging.org/IST/store/epub.cfm?abstrid=45405

Is there proof of concept (e.g. at least a prototype working device) showing their color management solution?

Maybe you guys should play the likes of Man City and Chelsea every weekend and then you wouldn’t be facing relegation.
It has been a mighty fine weekend. Having virtually accepted our fate we now have a little glimmer of hope again. That game in hand could turn things around. What a nervous steed I will be on Sunday for ANOTHER must win game.

Good luck . It was a football viewing extravaganza in my home after mass on Easter Day with relatives and friends moving back and forth from the barbecue on our patio and then inside to various rooms in our home where I had recorded the weekends’ matches involving Barca....Arsenal...Sunderland...and Everton.

4 DVRs and 4 TVs all running at the same time….with the little ones running around out back hunting for dem Easter Eggs before the raccoons made their nightly visit to clean up any leftovers in the bushes.

Well I'm glad you had a good time. I'm sure the gunners win topped off a nice Easter break?

I have some cream eggs waiting as a special treat as I am eating healthily at moment . I try not to stare at them too much!

The latest proposal from Technicolor was made at the last HEVC meeting and they will decide on whether to add it to HEVC at the next meeting.

Indeed. But you know what was actually the most popular match that people were watching?
Barca vs Athletic Bilbao. Man, the tempo of that match was inspiring. Those guys are fast as well as accurate.

Thanks . Is there a document that shows any tests which were conducted to verify the performance of the proposed method ?

I haven't seen a performance study but the gamut mapping proposal from Technicolor has gradually changed over the last four HEVC meetings due to cost concerns (the original proposal was to use a 3D LUT). The Technicolor proposal was changed to three 1D LUTs to lower cost and a further change was made at the last meeting to limit the number of pivot points. The current Technicolor proposal sounds nice since it would be better than the proposals that use only a single 1D LUT for all three color components while still being low enough in price that it could happen in the near future.

Geoff, you will be able to purchase the newest Sony 4K media player (with Netflix support) the FMP-X5 in the U.K. (and Europe).

So, like I said previously, the 2020 -> legacy TVs is a problem that has yet to be solved…and it isn’t easy. Good to see Technicolor working on the situation though. Thanks for catching me up quickly on the progressive JCT-VC steps toward that goal. I’ll have to try to keep up with the upcoming meeting=161.

Anyway, Sap likes colors….or is it inky blacks and he just don’t cotton to current 4K (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...=240350&page=6 ). Yo Sap, whatcha goin to do if your Kuro breaks, no more plasmas are being manufactured and the consumer electronics 4K implementation spec remains at 3840 × 2160 8 bit 4:2:0 Rec.709? Will you avail yourself to the less life form display tech (compared to plasma)….meaning, will you purchase an LCD?

Really don’t know how I forgot about adding Alamo Bay to L'armée’s 4K mastering list, as I made special note of the color management workflow last August, as sort of breaking news- https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...mo#post8013803

NAB 2014 videoclip from just a couple weeks ago, discussing Alamo Bay, 4K scanning, film (answer and release print vs. digital finish, etc.) - http://www.studiodaily.com/2014/04/n...ny-colorworks/ < Kris should like some of what’s said in this clip, given the past film vs. digital discussion here centering around the recently released Transcendence.

Another reason I like Technicolor is because I feel they are genuinely more *4K friendly* than other HDR proponents.

I am in the same boat. I am waiting for a 4K OLED TV as I do not like the color and contrast (i.e. poor black levels) of LCD based TVs. The entire concept of a backlight is something that I think is a fundamentally flawed one if you want to make a high quality display.

I do want a 2.35:1 CIH projector setup at some point when my job situation steadies a bit, but as it seems that OLED projectors are not happening and CRT ones are limited to 4:3 and 1080i, I may have to debase myself by allowing LCD display technology in my house. I have plasma and CRT displays here, thank you very much!

So in the end if I get a flat panel display, it will have to be 4K OLED. If I must go LCD it will be a projector setup.

Parked the bus, went for a burger, did some sightseeing and grabbed a beer!
