What I don't get is why we haven't seen a reverse angle. We get replays of goals from every which way, but there's no opposite angle of Mr Bitey's latest snack attack? Pffft. FIFA have charged him, but I pray that they've got some unreleased footage and/or photos because I think he'll get away with it otherwise. (Diego Lugano has just played dumb in the Uruguayans' latest press conference for that exact same reason.)

Best of luck against ze Germans tomorrow. Keeping everything crossed for ya!

No other gamut mapping methods have been proposed and since the proposal deadline was June 20th it is unlikely that any other methods will be considered. The Technicolor proposal is in the latest scalable extensions draft and the SEI message is called "colour remapping". The draft also includes an SEI message called "knee function" which can be used for displaying HDR video on traditional LDR displays.

The CEA is following what the CE companies are releasing this year and hopefully 4K Blu-ray will do better.

Are you really surprised? These people are going to give consumers they most half assed 4K standards they can. And everyone wonders why i talk $hit about 4K all the time. I have to laugh at all these sheep over at AVS buying these 4K LCD's thinking they're getting a massive leap in PQ. They have the nerve to say their TV looks better than plasma. All you are buying is pixels! Nothing else! Is it a wonder a 1080p plasma beat these 4K LCD's at the shootout????

http://www.avsforum.com/forum/167-pl...a-best-tv.html

TV manufacturers love sheeps that buy these 4K TV's with crap contrast ratio and the same specs as 1080p TV's.

rec 2020 was too good to be true. They don't want us to have the best, the want us to have good enough until they bring out the next half assed $hit for the sheep to buy.

rec 2020 and 10bit color and higher
4:2:2 and 4:4:4 Chroma subsampling
HDR
4KBD with over 100GB disc and increased bitrate from the max 40mbps bluray. Not this talk of using the same bitrate BS. Like i said...half assed.
And 4K OLED displays.

OR NO BUY!

I am not a sheep with a bell around my neck. You companies will not herd me to buy your BS.

Sap, I wish you wouldn’t hold back on your feelings.

Being an idealist, I’ve been kind of partial to XYZ from day 1 for it is most future-proof and you can do any color space (2020, P3) in it but of course, cost incurred for implementation thusly passed onto the consumer becomes an issue.

What I mean is that in order to be DCI compliant, the maximum allowed data rate for the JPEG 2000 images in a DCP (for the formats most here are familiar with) is 250 Mbit/s…..and that applies to both 2K and 4K DCPs. In other words, the DCI specs allow for any image data rate as long as it doesn’t peak above 250 Mbit/s.

Last Sept. (with the impetus being The Hobbit), a maximum compressed bit rate of 500 Mb/sec was recommended for HFR content (see the various red Ps here…
http://www.dcimovies.com/Recommended..._2012-0928.pdf )

So, in essence for practically all theatrical motion pictures these days think of 250 Mbit/s as being the maximum allowable bit rate. Note that this rate is for the image only, whereas the audio and subtitles have their own separate data rate. At the maximum (constant) data rate of 250 Mbit/s a two hour movie would result in a DCP of around 230 GB (image only)…which would give maximum allowable quality per DCI spec. To make DCPs as compact as possible in order to save space, etc., in practice, variable data rates between 80 Mbit/s - 150 Mbit/s usually lead to results which are deemed acceptable by the studios. In fact, most of the encoding systems default to ~125 Mbit/s for just 2K content. At a data rate of 125 Mbit/s, a two hour movie would result in a DCP of around 115 GBytes in size (image only).

If the data rate is set too low then the images will first become soft or blurry before more annoying compression artifacts become visible….

Based on the 250 Mbit/s max rate that you mentioned earlier, a 3 hr 4K movie at the maximum bit rate would be.... 330 GB (329.59 GB to be exact )

250 Mbits/sec, 1 Mbyte (MB)=8 Mbits.
1024 MB= 1 GB
3 hours= 10800 sec

(250 *10800)/(8*1024)=329.59

However, I am guessing you'd need more like 400-500 GB to avoid softening, yes? Methinks the DCP spec is not suited for high quality 4K material.
