Wonder what the #'s would be if they released each matrix movie separately? I think it might be Matrix=13,000 Matrix Part 2=7000 Matrix Part 3=0. Sorry, I don't know the actual names of the last two matrix movies, they were junk.

I'd like to see the Blue Planet numbers. That was HD-DVD's top film on Amazon, so how many sold? Why did it supposedly sell better than Blu?

you mean Planet Earth....and PE which was constantly at 6-9 last week on amazon was outsold nationwide by the Fountain on BD while the foountain barely cracked Amazons top 100.....Amazon sales mean DIDDLY to nationwide software.

Thanks yes I did mean PE. Give us the straight poop we can take it. Blu is the honest format.

It is only a matter of time. This "battle" is over. The next thing we will see is shelf space. Blu-Ray space is going to expand and HD-DVD disc space will contract. This is the same thing that happened to Beta.

Look at the HD-DVD demographic and compare it to the demographic that BD is comprised of at the current moment.

I think alot of people see "HD-DVD" and think it is a regular dvd. I had a friend who did that and now is left with a worthless piece of plastic. I think the HD-DVD sales are padded with that. I would bet that 100 people out of a thousand accidently buy HD-DVD's

an interesting take on this is to vebture to Amazon.com and view the HD DVD title pages. When you view the "what do consumers buy after viewing this item" less than 10% generally buy teh HD DVD.....there are exceptions of course, but go investigate, its funny. Then for EVERY BD title the majority of the people who view those pages buy them.

So advertising Matrix HD-DVD on 100's of forums, thousands of movie theaters, viral marketers all over avs spouting matrix this, matrix that, and a price drop on the low end hd-dvd player by 100 dollars during the same week, and a buy Matrix get any 2 hd-dvd's free at every major retailer promotion.. and they sold less then 14k copies total. GG HD-DVD. GG.

I think that if they were sold separately you would have more people buying the first one. Even then, there's no way that they would reach the 41,700 total movies sold (take 13,900 x 3, since each sell has 3 movies). WB was trying to capitalize on people trying as hard as they could to support HDDVD. They knew people would buy this to counter POTC, and took their money gladly. Had they released them separately, they wouldn't have made much money. If there was just one format, the sales wouldn't amount to too much (relatively speaking), since people would just wait for the movies to come out separately. However, since the formats are competing, people will do what they can to show support.

This is a slap in the face to HDDVD. Also, the giveaway of these titles had to account for something. Even packaging it didn't help.

ROFL! Almost 4:1! Awesome. I am honored to have been one of the ~47,000 people who bout Pirates. Besides, when Matrix comes to Blu-ray it will be the same thing maybe even more sold, proble around 55,000?

This little battle is far from deciding the format war, don't get too caught up in all of it. Almost 50k movies sold. For the format war to be over you're going to need 5m sold. And besides, we're comparing two different movies with different audiences. Why not compare The Matrix sales to sales of Basic Instinct? That would be silly. And so would comparing The Matrix to the Pirates, of course the Pirates are selling better - but they should have been selling much much better, a $25 product versus a $70 product. Should have been an even larger sales difference for anyone to be proud of it. The difference in number of people buying the movies is just 10,000, a relatively small number. Grand scheme of things, it's just a bump on the road. The BDA still needs to drop the prices of their players, they cannot rely on the PS3 forever.

I don't think many (if any) of us are saying it will end the format war. Also, we should all know that BD players will come down in price.

But you see, Matrix was being hailed as the "savior" for HD-DVD. The ones that matched Matrix up with Pirates was all those HD-DVD zealots like the ones on AVS forum, saying things like "who needs Pirates, we got Matrix". That 14,000 or so that bought Matrix on HD-DVD are only the truly hardcore fanboys. No regular joe is gonna spend $70-$100 on this trilogy. So the difference is that the people who bought Pirates on Blu-ray are more likely to be your average customer who don't even read internet forums, while HD-DVD is only being kept afloat by fanboys who can't swallow their pride and let the format just die.

EVEN it is far to win the battle but winning is coming very soon ,but Overall this sign means one thing Pirates are incredible titles so far released on BD including Apocalypto .Our Reaction here is to Show the HD-DVD liers and Who is living in illusion throwing tons of FUD and Untrue Statements on POTC saying that higherbandwidth have some noise reduction and even they lead themselves to conclude Matrix have better PQ.THEY are loosers and they Have a loosing Format ever made till now.

Actually, I think you're a little off there. It's not a $25 product versus a $70 product, because most people bought both Pirates movies, and most people buying The Matrix HD DVDs got them with incentives, like sale pricing, free movies thrown in, dirt cheap HD DVD players with free copies of The Matrix thrown in. I've seen someone say they got the whole box for only $19.99!
