If you mean the poster which has four names across the top, that in no way indicates to me that there would be 4 playable characters. It just looks to me like a movie poster which lists the cast playing major characters. One could be the player character, one the villain, and the others could be important supporting characters. Nothing to indicate multiple playable characters.

I thought that just meant that the scenes from the demo aren't in the actual game, and the characters are likely different, but that the game still follows the same theme...as in, it involves some serial killer. If it doesn't, then my interest in the game will take a huge dive.

I'm pretty sure it's still a serial-killer/thriller game. It's just the recently shown demo isn't part of the main game's plot.

You're right. I didn't know what was I writing at the time.

I'm pretty sure that what we saw of the demo will make it in some form into the final. It was just too much work to scrap.

David Cage had mentioned in an interview with Dutch magazine Chief that the main story will revolve around 4 different characters, and where putting the spotlight on their perceptions. In that respect, it is possible that the 4 different characters may be playable.

Speaking to VG247 at Games Convention, Quantic Dream boss David Cage said a single walk through of top drawer PS3 thriller Heavy Rain is likely to take no more than 12 hours.

“We’re still in the middle of production, so I can’t really tell you the exact time of the game, but we’re targeting a game between eight and 12 hours in gameplay for one walk through,” he said.

Seen for the first time in Germany last month, the game showed what appeared to be unparalleled plot-branching, a fact, Cage said, likely to keep the hardcore coming back for much more.

“It’s impossible in one walk through to see everything there is to see,” he added.

“And that’s going to be OK. For most gamers, they’re going to play it once, and really enjoy it and have a great journey, but some hardcore gamers will want to come back and see everything, and all possible options.”

Heavy Rain has been branded PS3’s “most important title for next year” by SCEE boss David Reeves.
Damn, is it 8-12 hrs ok? In this day of age when games clearly last more than that, I`ll bet a lot of fans wont be too happy. Im not much of a fan of replaying games more than 2 times to see "everything", but we`ll see with this one.

In the case of Heavy Rain, I think most people will want to play through it at least 2 times to explore different "What If..." possibilities. Remember that even if your main character dies, the game continues

Now Dead Space clocking in at barely more than 8h (or so it seems, needs to be confirmed) ... that's something else.

If they're going to make shorter games, they need to drop prices, even just a little bit, to make it worth the gamers' interest. I know they have money to recoup, but that doesn't help the people paying for the games.

I saw a bit of game play footage where some knife-wielding maniac is chasing a girl around a living room, with a button-press mini-game keeping her from being slashed. Is that just one aspect of the game (meaning, is the "interactive movie" thing relegate game play to a series of mini-games), or is it too early for anyone to know?

There's little padding like traveling between dozens of locations in these modern adventures, David Cage's estimate doesn't surprise me at all.

Don't retry - deal with it!

No "acting like a spaz" in Heavy Rain

Quantic Dream Comments On Weapon Usage In Heavy Rain

Heavy RainNow one of the most anticipated titles for the PlayStation 3, Heavy Rain has everyone asking many, many questions. Quantic Dream plans to take this project to another level of storytelling, going so far as to have the plot continue if the main character dies. There has also been plenty of discussion revolving around the gameplay itself, and here's where David Cage has some new details for us.

According to the Videogaming247 blog, Cage revealed that just because you can pick up any number of objects in the world, that doesn't mean you can use them all the time. In other words, don't think of this as GTA simply due to the relative open-world environment that you will explore. Specifically, Cage said:

“You could take the bottle, you can take the screwdriver, you can take the chainsaw, you can use different things and use them as a weapon if the context makes it logical. For example, when the guy comes back in, it's a weapon. But if you're just in middle the street, no. The philosophy behind it is not like GTA and it's an open world and I can do whatever, even if it's silly. You can do whatever makes sense in the context. That's really our policy.”

So no taking the screwdriver to that little girl playing in the puddle, and don't go arbitrarily smashing a bottle against a telephone pole. Basically, Cage is saying if you want to act like a spaz, go play GTA? in Heavy Rain, you need to accept the seriousness and gravity of the situation and follow along with the engrossing story. Items will help you, but as he says, only “if the context makes it logical.” Sounds good to us.

Game/artwork looks great. The gameplay sounds reminisant of clock tower from the quotes above.

Full walkthrough video. They've pushed themselves to that because who's making these adventure games anymore?

Seeing the demo from start to finish without lengthy loads puts their technical achievement into perspective I think.
