Picked up Edward Scissorhands from cdwow.com.au for $13.56 yesterday delivered and bought a Sony BDP-S360 as my new player for $297 from Dick Smith and that came with a free copy of Ghostbusters. I'm a massive fan of the film but the underwhelming reviews of the disc left me a little unconvinced of a purchase. I was keeping an eye on player prices as my Samsung BD-P1500 is OK, but wearing out its welcome. Sure enough, the Sony was on sale so I couldn't pass up a sub-$300 player with the free disc!

Just picked up X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Didn't see it at theatres and even though the reviews are average I really enjoyed the X-Men films and Hugh Jackman is always good. Plus, it was with a voucher so no harm done if I don't care for it too much.

Rented:
Observe and report: A fairly average film, with a very cute girl (cute in the way a baby is), wierd no doubt, but I think that's what they where going for. VQ and AQ is similiar to most modern comedies I have seen recently.

Just watched An American Werewolf in London myself. Bought it after reading Empire magazines 4 star transfer review only to find it so grainy it looked like it had been shot through a screen door. Great movie though.
Cheers,
Carcuss.

I loathed Step Brothers, the only upside to the entire film was the mother provided some eye cady. Terrible film, haven't seen Role Models.

I love grain, so I may have to check out An American Werewolf in London (I love the video transfer of Babel for example , shame it has only lossy audio.

Anyway:

Rise of the Lycans: The first hour or so is precisly what I was after, and even had some emotional impact. However the ast twenty minutes or so took the whole film down a notch, and the spastic ending which felt the need to bash the point of the film so hard into the viewers heads they must have assumed we where idiots. Overall a good film that rises above Evolution, but still is decididly inferior to the first film of the series.

Absolutely love that film. I know quite a few people that didn't rate it, but I find it great. The B&W version is fantastic.

Just watched: V for Vendetta again. Tested out a riser I built. It houses the centre speaker and serves as a base for the display to give it another 15cm height. It makes the display sit at a much nicer height, and seems a bit more "theatrical".

Gladiator. Despite the poor review of the BD in Empire, I thought it was a great transfer. Enjoyed the extended cut.
Cheers,
Carcuss.

Try watching it on a projector, on my approximatly 120" screen it's a wax figures and halos galore. The scenes included in the extended cut look great though, which makes it even more painfull to watch the other 2 and a half hours. It's a lazy, lazy video transfer and it makes me somewhat sad to see that people say its great (as it is anything but). Hell, it makes the non imax scenes on The Dark Knight look terrific (which where very average). The audio quality is on the other hand very nice, and whilst not quite reference is very close to reference. I refuse to buy it and have tried watching it twice, it's a very good film, but just as I refuse to buy a blu without a lossless audio track, I refuse to buy a blu with a subpar video transfer (especially a film as big as gladiator).

Hmm, can't cait for Transformers 2 to come out (it may be a bad film, if when I was young I didn't watch the cartoon every other day, but as I did, I loved every moment of it).

It's great on Blu-ray too. It's not the prettiest picture, but looks awesome just as it was intended. The AQ is great. The final scene is massive but there's fantastic clarity in the mix.
